- 1/2" Power Twist Plus Link V-Belt
Overview
The Power Twist Plus Link Belt is a high-performance V-belt that reduces vibration on table saws, drill presses, and other power tools by as much as 35%. It replaces the standard 1/2" V-belt on most machines, and the length can be adjusted by removing links. Whereas traditional drive belts can stretch and become misshapen (creating vibration as they rotate), the Power Twist belt is made up of interlocking segments of polyurethane elastomer and multiple plies of polyester fabric that retain their original shape, thereby reducing vibration. What's more, you can easily add or subtract links to get optimal tension on almost any machine!
Features:
- Replaces the standard 1/2" V-belt on most machines
- Can be adjusted by removing links
- High-performance V-belt reduces vibration
- Sold by the foot
What's included
(1) 4 ft 1/2" Power Twist Plus Link V-Belt or (1) 1/2" Power Twist Plus Link V-Belt (sold by foot)
Technical Details
- 1/2" wide
- Made of interlocking segments of polyurethane elastomer and multiple plies of polyester fabric

I've put these belts on my table saw, jointer, and bandsaw. I'm finally putting one on my drill press. These belts are expensive, but they make a huge difference in how much smoother your machines will run. I've used these for years and have never had one break. I think they are worth the money.

I'm having trouble with this belt. I put it on my Ridgid saw, TS2424, but it seems to want to continually ride off the pulley. It's not slipping off, like it's loose. More like, it's being turned off after a single revolution. I have the "smooth" side down around the pulleys. Not sure what else I should be doing.

BEST ANSWER: Jay, first of all make sure the pulleys are in alignment. Then turn your belt over and put the link tabs in the pulleys rather then the smooth side. The link tabs act as the v on a v-belt.. I think you will find that this will work great and you should have no more belt ride off. I have this belt on my jointer and it really improved the performance. Hope this helps. Randy

The power twist belt is usually a little wider than the V-belt it replaces (1/2" vs 3/8"), and as a result, any imperfection in the pulleys such as a narrowing of the groove is amplified. First thing to do is carefully inspect the pulley grooves for any "pinch" points. Then make sure the belt is positioned with the tabs on the outside diameter. The direction of the belt should be where the end of the link that only has a hole in it is in the front (enters the pulley first).

First of all the rough side should be against or on the inside of the pulley side. Second, make sure that the arrows on the belt are going in the same direction as the pulley.

I'm confused by your picture of the link belt on a table saw. Fenner installation instructions (you'll have to locate their web site pdf file since I can't paste it here) say the belt must be installed with tabs trailing. The tabs are leading on your saw. ???

on Jan 14, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Disregard my previous answer. I think a better answer is to set up the belt as shown on Rockler's picture of the belt on the saw, shown online, which is placed correctly assuming the motor/pully is rotating clockwise as we look at that picture. Their picture of just the belt is shown positioned inside out. Also there should be arrows on the belt pointing in the direction of rotation, as is on my belt.

I'm not sure exactly what the tabs are, but the logical thing to do is have the belt run in the direction of the pully/ motor. In this picture, as we look at it, the belt would be placed correctly if the motor/pully is rotating clockwise.

Can the width be trimmed, and how? This belt isn't sitting as deep in the pulley as the old 1/2" rubber belt, and it is rubbing on the inside of the head of my vintage Sears lathe. I have the belt in the right direction and the tabs are on the inside, so it is a very tight fit that is now proud of the pulley.

BEST ANSWER: Arron, if you wanted to reduce I would guess that you might be able to do so with a sander. I however would first check the width of your pulley. If you have a 3/8 pulley a 1/2 inch belt would make it stand proud of the pulley. The belts are also made in 3/8 inch widths. I would attempt to find one of those before I made any dangerous modifications. Hope this helps.

Can I use this belt in a reversed mode with the lugs outside to grab onto an object and help our FTC robot climb a 50 degree angled climb? Are the parts interchangable so I could increase the distance between lugs?

BEST ANSWER: I can't answer the first part of your question but the lugs are definitely interchangeable and you can make the belt any length you want as long as you have enough belt.

BEST ANSWER: The 1/2 inch power twist will adapt to most V type belts that are under the total length of the power twist and given better performance and much less vibration.

I added this belt to my Craftsman 1980 table saw and now can stand a nickel on its side anywhere on the table and it doesn't move (or fall over) on start-up or shut-down. Slight decrease in noise level compared to old v-belt.

I've installed these belts on my table saw, band saw, and 2 drill presses. These segmented belts smooth the operation of all of these machines. My table saw belt has been in service for 12 years and still works like a champ. I do take the tension off the belts when the machines are not in service. I'll always install these belts where they can be utilized.

One thing not mentioned is how quickly these belts will tear up your pulleys. They are also pretty noisy on a quiet machine evidence of the friction. They do work but buyers should be aware of these facts.

Very impressed!
Recently the belt on my table decided, in the middle of a huge project, to come apart. I went to the local auto parts store and bought a new belt. It was a nightmare! My saw almost vibrated across the shop. I was so frustrated I took the blade off the saw and let the machine run for a couple hours hoping the belt would stretch and smooth out. No such luck. I happened to be on this website looking for something else and saw this belt. I read the reviews and decided to give it a try. I am very happy I did! When the belt arrived, I made a line straight to the shop to replace the belt. I was a little skeptical, but thought if it smooths it out even half way it would be much better. From the moment I started the saw there was almost no vibration at all. This belt, initially at least, is the best belt I have ever seen for a table saw! Hopefully it will be durable and not need replaced for a long time, but even if it does, it was well worth the money! I would recommend this belt to anyone who has a table saw. Mine is a fairly large saw, so if you are a professional, do not worry about it working well on larger saws. My table saw gets more use than any other tool in my shop and for the last month or so I have cringed every time I had to use it; not any more! Good luck and happy cutting!

This is just a belt, for...
This is just a belt, for heaven's sake. I don't believe all these other 5 star reviews. Vibration may be caused by a belt occasionally, but this often? I'd want to see it with my own eyes. I changed out the belts on my disk sander, band saw, and big Delta lathe. There was more vibration before I changed the bandsaw, and about the same afterward. There was almost none before on the lathe and disk sander and none afterward but I hoped that the segmented belt would last longer hard to say, neither the standard v belts died nor has the segmented belt. Why did I change? I thought the segmented belt would last longer and be easier to change its about the same as a standard belt. Disadvantages? Cost! if you make it up the wrong size I did, you have to do it over again. I would expect a belt made up of many pieces will wear stretch more than a standard V belt. Cannot say if this will be the case since I've not experienced it yet about a year on the saw, but I don't use the bandsaw all that much. All in all, this belt performs pretty much like my old standard V belts. Transparent, and you don't know its there until it breaks mine have not, yet.

Works perfectly for non- woodworking equipment as well
I just installed this on my 10" Atlas metal lathe.
The motor hangs on it's mount to keep the belt in tension and the traditional belts stretch where they go around the pulleys and always bounce and vibrate in use.
I put this on and the reduction in sound and vibration is impressive. Nomally tools in the chip tray below the ways would ratlle and bounce around- now, quiet. Impressive. Expensive and worth it.

I can't believe how much difference this belt made. Prior to installation you could actually see my Powermatic saw vibrate and it was loud. I'd read about how well these belts were supposed to work to quiet the noise and vibration. There a little price compared to a normal belt, but now my saw purrs instead of squealing and no more visible vibration. I don't think you'll be disappointed with the result if you can talk yourself past the cost.

My experience is the same as...
My experience is the same as most of the other reviewers singing the praises of these link belts. I put this belt on my 10" Craftsman table saw. I had concluded it was worn out as it rattled and sounded like the bearings on the blade shaft were shot. Now I can hear the blade "sing". Remarkable difference. These belts should be standard equipment on all belt driven power tools. Next on my list is the belt on my band saw.

Upon adding the belt to my Grizzly contractor saw the vibration was considerably reduced. Definitely more than 50% reduction. I do recommend the product if you want to smooth out belt vibration. On the other side of the coin, I've noticed more belt squall when the motor starts up...maybe the compound isn't quite as sticky as a the v-belt rubber.

I've been wanting to try this for a long time now.I purchased a flat sander that came with one for it and it works great. So I spent the cash to replace the factory belt on my 14" bandsaw. Results in both cases have been very positive. I now get a smooth start and very smooth continuous operation on both pieces of equipment without the vibration and both units run more smoothly. I should of done it before but they are $$$$$$$$$.

This is a must
I just put this belt on my jointer and wow this belt is amazing!!! My jointer was really loud with vibration and now my DC is louder than my jointer. I also replaced the straight blades in my jointer with a byrd cutterhead, but I installed the cutterhead before I bought the twist belt and there was still a lot of vibration but after that it's now very quite. I am now saving up to replace all my belts for my other machines.

My tablesaw had began to viberate. After checking everthing and changing the arbor bearings I had reduced the viberation but not compeletly gone. I replaced the belt with a new belt from the automotive store and it became worse. I ordered the link belt and now my saw will pass the nickel test ! I thought it was a little pricey but it worked.

I replaced the belt on my Delta 10" contractors saw. The reduction in vibration was immediately obvious. The belt was easy to adjust to length with the interlocking segments and easy to install. Besides this application, it would be great to keep a couple of feet of this belt material on hand for a universal belt replacement for any 1/2" v-belt.

I'd been intrigued by these belts for some time, and finally took the plunge. First to upgrade was my 14" band saw. What a difference! The saw runs quite smoothly and quietly now whereas it used to shudder and bump along all the time. I shouldn't have waited. I've now gotten belts for my Delta floor-standing drill press and my Dewalt Heavy-Duty 10" Woodworker's Table Saw - DW746. Both were improved as a result. Highly recommended.
