Great addition to my shop
When you are going for accuracy in your wood working it pays to have the right tool to set up your equipment. I still check with a scrap piece of wood and a Combination Square and each time it has been on the money. I would recommend this protractor to anyone .

My 8" Wixey Protractor
This protractor works vertical and horizontal; I found a 1/32" bind in my saw blade. You old pros can eyeball it but for a new guy like me this tool is great. The magnets hold it steady and it's accurate.

I just completed a small project...
I just completed a small project that involved some complex mitered cuts and the digital readout was very helpful. It certainly would have been a lot more frustrating and less accurate project without this tool. It was a great help for measuring before cutting, for for checking tool setup and for aligning parts when thy were ready to assemple. It's easy to zero and it's accurate to 1/10th of a degree. the two arms move easily and they're tight enough that the protractor holds its position. The battery is a fairly common one that you can probably buy in a large drugstore. But one small caution about the battery: I've had other Wixey digital devices that continue to draw a trickle of power even when they're turned off, and that's resulted in a dead battery. You can avoid that if you pull the battery holder out just a bit when you're done for the day so that the battery disconnects from the contacts inside the housing.

Did a small project with my brother-in-law using this the other day and we both found this thing to be awesome. Particularly during layout, checking cuts needed and cuts performed. I have the 8" model which is great for the items listed but a little large for setting up the bandsaw and some other smaller tools. I may pick up the 3" model for that. The magnetic edges help hold it to the saw table while making adjustments. Wished it would lock the angle but overall love it!

It also shows eighty-nine point 6 degrees, point 7 degrees, point 8 and point nine degrees.I shall use this thing for any exposed joint on furniture.I just wish it came with a battery condition indicator. After daily use for two months it's still running, and I just don't know when the batttery will go out. Buy this thing.

The quality, accuracy and repeatability of...
The quality, accuracy and repeatability of this instrument are excellent. The ability to zero the reading at any position adds great flexibility. It would be nice if it could be locked tightly in position to more securely hold the reading while moving to a new position.Editor's note: As per Wixey, this feature it is designed to achieve maximum tightening at about halfway. (forcing it any further does not increase the "tightness"). The design is intentional to allow for any fatigue due to long term use. The design intent is for holding measurements rather than for locking of the blade. Intent for use is to only hold angle reading for the blade so one can set or repeat the angle to transfer.

This magnetic base protractor has been a great help in obtaining the precise angle on my table saw and miter saw. I have found it very useful in aligning my tools in tenths of a degree to an accuracy I have not been able to achieve in the past. As a retired engineer and an avid woodworker I design and build custom furniture and precision is essential (no gaps).

I bought this protractor becasuse it will read out fractions of an angle. It is a perfect match for drawing programs (like Corel Draw) that draw (and measure) extremely accurate angles. It is accurate, easy to use, and an excellent value for the money. The only thing about this protractor that doesn't work well is the lock on the swivel. It is hard to use and allows some slippage even when fully engaged. One addition that would have been great on this tool is a bubble level as a reference point.

Before reading the other comments I thought that I was going to have to send the tool back. Apparently it is working properly. The first thing I noticed was that it was heavier than I thought it would be. Then I tried the lock with the same result as the other reviewers. The way the lock works pretty much renders it impossible to transfer and angle unless you use the tool in conjunction with a level; and that's still not going to be accurate enough for precise work.

The angle lock is just about useless but I did not buy it for that. It works great for setting blade angles and drilling angles. The digital display is easy to read. The Digital protractor is extremely accurate and easy to use. When I was deciding which size to buy I figured the larger would be better for all applications. When I received it I quickly realized that the larger one was great for layouts but I would have preferred the 3" model for saw blade setting. I will either make an 1/8" parallel to shim past the teeth on my blades for use with the 8" model or purchase the 3" model for setting up the blades of my saws.

This product works great for the inspectors checking a weld angle. Much more conventional and quicker to use than basic protractor for inspection. Only issue we have is that it is hard to lock in place, but not a high priority for us.Editor's note: As per Wixey, this feature it is designed to achieve maximum tightening at about halfway. This is an over-due instrument. I purchased it to check angles on my table saw. But I use it for matching shapes on wall moldings, etc. The only complaint is that the angle lock is very difficult to engage. Thus, one needs to use care when transferring a measurement from one place to another.

I really like this product to...
I really like this product to check angles on tools, walls, wood, etc. While I have plenty of nice squares, the ability to check that it is truly 90 degrees quickly or any specific angle is really nice. This product has only really two features - the digital display with the on/off switch and reset to zero buttons and the angle lock. The Digital Display feature is fantastic. However, I really had to lower the rating on this tool until they fix the angle lock on it. If you ever plan on using the angle lock, I would highly suggest you look elsewhere to see if you can find a comparable product at a similiar price. I know the Bosch one is significantly more and the Bosch was out of my price range for this type of tool at this point, but I am completely disappointed in the angle lock. Unless you have steel fingernails, I was unable to move the lock all the way to the lock position, but rather about 3/4 of the way and it was still easy to move. I used a screwdriver to move the switch to the complete lock position, but suprisingly it was still able to move without to much force. If you do not need the locking feature and/or can remember the angle to transfer the measurement later, then I highly recommend getting this product; otherwise, try the angle lock in the store first to see if it fits your need.

The product description states "features a convenient tightening mechanism for holding measurements."
