I went Chess table shopping one day with my sister and I could not believe the price tags on some of these tables. I love to work with my hands and have only basic knowledge and tools to work with. Until I met the friendly people at Rockler, that is just down the street. So I asked my sis if I could give it a try. I went to Rockler and bought a few board feet of Walnut and Maple, after my third attempt it was about nine board feet. BIG TIP, use a good table saw, to get things straight. I used a router table to joint the edges, and spline jointed the boards together. I purchased the leg stock from another company then took measurements from other furniture pieces my sister has and used calipers to set the depths of the turnings. Remember I have never done this before! The door pull was inspired by the Beach House that the piece was made for. Well, months later I think she was very surprised on how well it turned out - she actually displays it proudly in her home.
