I did a 2' X 3' relief carving(3/4" thick)of Portland Head Lighthouse and thought it was fairly good. I wanted more depth without the expense of 2 or 3" dimensional stock. So I broke the work into 3 depths and then glued them together. Each layer is 3/4" Poplar and overall size is 11 1/2" high by 24" wide. I used a combination of Robert Sorby and FlexTool carving tools to complete the carving. It was colored "lightly" with pencil, then clear coated in MinWax High Gloss Poly

"I only get to visit the Pittsburgh store once a year so I make sure to make my visit count. The staff there is always helpful and very patient as I zip from aisle to aisle like a child in a toy store."
