This bench is built around Rockler's 24 X 72 beech benchtop. I wanted a solid work surface that I could move around the shop (single garage stall), and effectively store against the wall when not in use. It was a little tricky to get the top's hinges at the correct height to allow the gas struts (120 lb capacity each) to have the proper range of motion.
The top is surrounded by hard maple, and that wood is also used for the vice jaw faces and short stretchers. The legs are red oak and the long stretchers are alder. I have since added a long stretcher between the front legs for extra stability.
Jay, the Arlington store manager did a great job with his vise recommendations.

Time to Build: 51-100 Hours    Difficulty: Moderate

"Have been a return customer for a number of years, and a recent experience has really cemented that bond for me. After using my Rockler lighted magnifying lens for a few months, one of the wires from the battery pack came loose. When I contacted Customer Service to inquire about sending the unit back, they instead sent me a brand new one - no questions asked, no return expected, no charge whatsoever. This simple step - coupled with top quality, innovative products - ensured my repeat business more than any other advertising technique or gimmick could ever do. Keep up the good work, Rockler!"
