My old setup kept me from using my router table more often. I needed a new fence, better dust collection and a safety switch. I also wanted easy to access tools for bit changing and height adjustment.
The router fence was made from laminated 1/2" MDF and is 6" high. It has removable zero-clearance inserts I made about 20 total, is attachable to the existing table-saw channel, has a hold down at the other end and has interior storage for collets, collet wrench, insert plates, and insert plate tool. Everything I need is at my fingertips. The T-track allows for hold downs and stop blocks.
Dust is collected from within the fence on top and from a box I built underneath. The box has a 4" blast gate and a "Y" fitting that connects to the 2-1/2" blast gate on the fence. I can control the dust collection air flow with the blast gates on the back and with the intake at the front of the fence depending on usage. see photos
I now use my router table all the time because everything I need it there and easy to use. And dust in the shop has been dramatically reduced to almost nothing! It was worth every bit I put into it. It may not be the prettiest thing but I love it!
