It is one of the best mandrels I've ever used and, since I have 2 shops 1,250 miles apart, it seems that my best tools are always at the other place. I bought here because it is the best price anywhere online or at brick-and-mortar.

Can this Mandrel be used on Ceiling Fan Pull Kits?
William T
on May 25, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The mandrel can be used on a variety of projects. You just need to buy the bushings that the fan pulls require. I have three different sized bushings that I use for different projects.

DEpends on your lathe. This will work fine as long as your lathe accepts an mt2 size insert into the headstock. Need to check the size for your lathe.

It should since they are both 7mm diameter. You will still need the the ceiling fan bushings or ability to limit edges. Also need a 7mm drill bit.

The shaft does not lock well for some reason. If i have a pen blank mounted in the madrel, tightening the screw on top will move the shaft down even if the chuck wont tighten any further. is there a problem with the mandrel i received?
Emilio F
on Oct 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It sounds like there might be a problem with the fitting. The mandrel just has a compression fitting that clamps down on the shaft when the compression nut is tightened. If you have tightened up on the nut and it doesn't hold the shaft of the mandrel securely then it sounds like there might be a problem with the compression fitting.

I had the same problem and discovered that the mandrel rod was coated in lubricant probably to prevent rust during storage. I wiped it down as well as the inside of the compression nut with some mineral spirits, and it's solid now.

Tightening the two pieces of the #2 Morse taper should prevent the shaft from moving when blanks are in place. If not I would expect the retailer from whom you purchased it should replace it for you.

adjustable #2 pen mandrel
have used it quite a bit and have switched between styles so I figured out that a long pin punch slid inside the morse taper bumps it loose easily to slide the 7 mm spindle in or out as desired

It runs true and is very solid. Only complaint is that the collet hold the spindle tight after it is loosened and it needs to be pulled out before it can be adjusted properly. Other than that. Works great.

Serves its purpose
I would recommend getting the mandrel saver as well to keep the stress off of the mandrel. Not a strong piece, it bends pretty easily regardless of where you buy one from. Get the mandrel saver so the pressure is on the bushings instead.

Collet to tight
Maybe mine is just defective, but when I untighten the lock nuts after using it on a project the 7mm rod is stuck so tight that I have to knock it loose with another small rod that will fit in the hole in the back of the unit and beat it out. I use dry silicone spray before I assemble it for use but it still is stuck when I unlock the collet. Maybe my collet is not machined properly. If you don't tighten the nuts enough the 7mm rod will just push back in.
