Create an authentic vintage sunburst finish on any stringed instrument with Behlen's Sunburst Guitar Finish Kit. Includes Vinyl Sealer, Starcast Amber Toner, Encore Brown Toner, and Instrument Lacquer. Simply apply the aerosol cans in a sequence to achieve the iconic sunburst finish!

  • Start by laying a perfect foundation with the vinyl sealer. The vinyl sealer is clear, flexible and moisture resistant providing a solid base for the toner.
  • The Amber toner paired with Encore Brown provides a beautiful transparent sunburst effect allowing the wood to show through.
  • Provide the finishing touches to your instrument with Behlen Stringed Instrument Lacquer for a professional finish.

Behlen Vinyl Sealer:

  • Compatible to use under any Behlen aerosol topcoat.
  • Improved moisture resistance.
  • Non-stearated formula.
  • Dries to the touch in 7 minutes (at 77°F and 50% relative humidity).
  • Dry time before sanding and topcoating: 20 minutes (at 77°F and 50% relative humidity).
  • Package life: 3 years.
  • Sheen: 42-46.
  • Spread rate: 8.6 sq ft/13 oz can A 1 dry mil.
  • Use approximately 1 can for 1 acoustic guitar.

Behlen Amber Toner:

  • Aerosol form, no extra equipment is needed.
  • Basic shades for classic guitar finishes.
  • Feathers in invisibly for a beautiful sunburst effect.
  • Excellent transparency.
  • For best results, use Vinyl Sealer before the toners, and Stringed Instrument Lacquer after the toners.
  • Dries to the touch in 7 minutes (at 72°F and 50% relative humidity).
  • Dry time before handling: 15 minutes (at 72°F and 50% relative humidity).
  • Dry time before topcoating: one hour (at 72°F and 50% relative humidity).
  • Package life: 3 years.
  • Use approximately 1 can for 1 acoustic guitar.

Behlen Encore Brown Toner:

  • Aerosol form, no extra equipment is needed.
  • Basic shades for classic guitar finishes.
  • Feathers in invisibly for a beautiful sunburst effect.

  • Dry time before handling and recoating: 1-2 hours (at 72°F and 35% relative humidity).
  • Dry time before rubbing out: 1-4 weeks (at 72°F and 35% relative humidity).
  • Coverage: 7 to 10 square feet per can.
  • Package life: 3 years.
  • Use approximately 4 cans for 1 acoustic guitar (9-12 coats recommended).
