Upon close examination

The pad and the plastic dogs are fine, but one of the holdfasts broke when I struck it with a rubber mallet. Upon close examination, the failure was inevitable, since the clean-up grinding cut a slight groove at the point of failure. I've been a happy Rockler customer for a long time, and will continue to be; but this holdfast is not up to the standards that I've come to expect here. The quality is remembered, long after the price is forgotten.

I'm a Rockler guy, always have been. After watching a Fine Woodworking demonstration on hold down's I went to Rockler and found this set on sale. It arrived quickly and I went to work. I use the hold downs for everything, EVERYTHING, they are the best tool in my shop. So you can imagine how disappointed I was when I, in the middle of a huge build, whacked my hold down as I had a hundred times before, and broke the hook clean at the shoulder where the bar meets the hook. I thought, 'Really!? a rubber mallet snapped cast iron? That doesn't sound right.' f course Rockler did it's thing and new ones are on the way. For the price, I guess you should expect this type of frequency of failure, but still, even given the lower quality, I do not know what I would do without these things in my shop. Just to be sure I never go a day without them again I ordered a second set.

The router mat is is a good size and works well with my new Bosch Router. I drilled 1 test hole in my workbench for the Holddowns and bench dogs. The holddowns and bench dogs both work well. I believe that reviewers stating that a holddown broke had a defective item as ferrous metal can have undetectable interior flaws. The plastic bench dogs are sturdy, but anything can wear. However, replacements are inexpensive. Overall, I am delighted with this set.

First, I give Rockler 5 stars for customer service. The bench dogs are great. I bought the kit for the holdfasts. Of the two holdfasts one would not fit through the 3/4" holes in my benchtop. I called Rockler and they sent a replacement immediatly. The replacement is also out of round and will not fit a 3/4" hole. They gave me a credit for the entire kit. Rockler has always prvided me excellent customer service

I bought the package because I needed the holdfasts. No matter what I tried, I could not make the slick, painted, cast metal stems hold in the bench holes-to the point that they were dangerous. Last night the arm on one of them broke off when I hit it not hard. I just threw them in the garbage, as I would not even be interested in a replacement. I'm disappointed [in] such a clearly inferior product.
