Great concept but I stopped using the cones because they put large impressions in my work. So how do you avoid the cones that have points on them from making marks in your work? I invested in them and would like to use them. Is there an updated cone design to fix this problem?

What is the weight limit of the bench cookies? Looking to hold furniture while painting.
Wendi
on Apr 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I don't know what the weight limit is, but I use these to hold a book case that I was finishing and one of the plastic sleeves busted otherwise I think they're a good product. I don't think they're rated for projects such as furniture.

Bench Cookies
I really did not know if these would work, but after using them I would recommend them to anybody. They work as advertised unlike so many products.

Great
The bench cookies work great. Nice solid sugar to work on and the cones are great for finish. Takes away the need to use plywood and brad nails for spacers.

Like having a third hand
I use to hang the material off the edge of my workbench and always ran the risk of hitting the side of the bench. With these I'm able to freely move around the material with my router and it's like having a third hand holding it for me. The cones are a great help when it comes time to finish my project.

I love these. It's like having an extra pair of hands on deck for projects. I use them constantly and will continue to do so! They have become a necessity at the workbench.

I must have looked at the...
I must have looked at the Bench Cookies and accessories at least four times trying to figure out why other woodworkers thought they were so great. I've always just put a few pieces of scrap under my projects when sanding, routing, or finishing. This particular set finally went on sale and I bought one. What difference! No more project sliding around on the scrap wood blocks. No more ruined finishes after the project fell off the blocks. I've only been using them for a week or so but they have already become my favorite for holding pieces while routing, sanding, finishing, and even drilling. They hold the workpiece firmly in place and can be stacked or used with the risers to leave quite a bit of space underneath. This makes it easy to get a clamp and a backing scrap piece under the project when drilling to reduce back-side tear-out. I've also noticed that my random orbit sander works much better when the piece is on the cookies because they don't allow much sideways movement and that means the sander is actually dragging the sandpaper over more material on each orbit. If you haven't tried these I highly recommend them. I've already ordered another set and wish I had tried them sooner!

Cookies
I have used them for sanding and staining so far and they work well. Held a large 1 thick oak panel solidly while sanding, no movement at all.

Luke-warm at best.
Purchased the bench cookies through another company years ago, as well as through Rockler and absolutely have nothing bad to say about them, they truly are a great product. With the finishing cones however, not so much. True, they are better than a painter's pyramid when it comes to stability and "staying put", however they require a cookie, and when a project calls for 30+ points to rest parts on, this can get expensive fast. Also, who wants to shorten the life of a cookie with overspray? For small, one to two pieces at a time finishing projects, they will work fine. Otherwise painters pyramids screwed to 2x4's on sawhorses works best for large projects where production matters, and the screws solve the "staying put" problem.

Like the cookies, not the cones
The cookies keep my work from sliding while sanding or routing, however, the cones leave a slight blemish in the finish.

Would not choose this design again
The pointed bench cookies cones leave pock marks blemishes in softer woods. These marks are a little deep to sand out. Maybe that's why they came out with the "ridge" design!
