How do you secure the adaptor and featherboard in the miter slot?
Craig F
on Dec 18, 2016

Bench Dog® Single Feather-Loc®, Multi-Purpose Featherboard

Bench Dog® Miter Slot Adapter 10-012
BEST ANSWER: If you look at the two holes in the metal adaptor you will notice they have a taper; one side is large in diameter. So the bolts go in the holes with the head of the bolt on the side which is larger and when the nuts tighten up the metal will spread out the sides of the adaptor locking it in the miter slot.
Another way to say it is, put the bolts through the adaptor, head of bolt in the wider hole. Put the adaptor in the miter slot with the bolts sticking up. Put the featherboard on the bolts and tighten the nuts. The adaptor will spread out from the pressure of the bolts acting as a wedge and lock the whole thing in the miter slot.
Good luck. This one works well and you can swap the adaptor, bolts and nuts to another featherboard, or make one out of a piece of 1/2 inch lumber and have lots of shapes.

The bolt that goes through the adapter and feather board has a tapered head so that when you tighten the knob on the feather board, it makes the adapter spread open in the miter slot causing it to lock in place.

You shouldn't need any adaptors. Mitre channels should be standard width and the bar on the feather board expands. Check that you have the counter sunk bolt at the open end of the bar.

I have a delta table saw with a slot for a feather board and it holds the wood up against the table saw guide so it's nice and tight when I rip something. Although it has worked great in the past I am noticing that when I run a piece of wood through the feather board is now starting to slide. I have tightened the tee nob up as much as I could but the feather board still moves. The round tapered bolt holds but the tee bolt does not spread the plastic enough to keep it in place. Any help would be appreciated.
David L
on Feb 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Be sure the round tapered bolt is in the forward position and the T nut is in the back. I cannot get mine to slip no matter how I position it, except when the tapered bolt is behind the T nut.
I don't understand when you say "the tee bolt does not spread the plastic enough", since the spreading part is metal. Anyway, try making sure the tapered bolt is in the front and the metal part has the taper in the front also.

feather board
I use two of these feather boards stacked together when making crown molding. By stacking two of them together they give me the height needed to hold the 5 inch wide board safely against my router fence, They are longer than regular feather boards, and hold the material tighter against my router fence. I am going to buy four more of these feather boards, to make it even safer when making crown molding, by holding the board against the fence before and after the cut. don Miller, D&S Custom Cabinets

Excellent Featherboard
Great item. It's the first one I've found that reaches close to my saw blade as the miter slot is almost 8" away.

Get these as an EXTRA pair of handles at your table saw or router lift table
These are so good as an extra pair of hands at the table saw or router table as stock is cut into usable pieces. These extra pair of hands give you better and more uniformily and repeatable cut / shaped pieces.

So good I'll buy another
I use mine on the table saw and I feel its quite handy. It can be flipped over when I put my fence on the left side of the blade and it's very adjustable. I'm going to buy my second one the next time I visit Rockler. A kick-back is pretty scary and this is an important safety tool.

Just discovered feather boards
They add a layer of safety and confidence. Glad I learned about them.

Been sawing wood for fifty-eight years. Never had anything more than a push stick and a clamp.

Does not move under pressure
This was definitely a good purchase. I have used my homemade feather boards for years with fairly good success. While purchasing wood at Rockler, I picked this up and looked it over. I decided to give it a try and was very impressed with how it performed. I ran about 12 maple boards thru the table saw and it did not move at all. If this holds up better than my wooden boards, which I'm sure it will, i'll be back to purchase more.

I bought 2 of these, they were a reasonable price and I'm very happy with how they are working out on both my table saw and shaper.

Bench Dog Featherboard knobs
I love this feather board. It replaced a homemade one made from a 1 x 4 my father made that lasted 30 years. I've seen references to the knobs and my experience was that my knobs were poorly made and after a dozen or so uses they separated from their nuts, and they were NOT over-tightened. I easily fixed it by replacing the 1/4-20 nuts with wing nuts, cutting slots in the knob shanks so the knob handles were perpendicular to the wing nuts.

Necessary Attachment
My project required ripping multiple 2i0 foot long 2x6s and I used 2 of these featherboards to do the job! I couldn't have done the job accurately without it.

Bench Dog Tools
I just purchased these tools and have used them with a great deal of surprise. They added a much better cut and most of all the safety they provide. They are easy to set up and use. Highly recommend this product.

I have used this product for...
I have used this product for over a month and have had absolutely NO problems. I disagree with the comments about the knobs being poorly built. It is NOT necessary to tighten the knobs super tight which is probably why the knobs have not held up. I love this item and use it daily and would recommend it to anyone!

Great product, Adjusting needed.
Great product!, Great quality, easy to use, but it does fit loose In my dewalt TS miter slots, had to add a cardboard shim to keep it from sliding while using.

Good size but doesn't hold straight out of the box.
It is a good size. The thing would not clamp securely to the table saw slot. I had to add some tape to the edges to get it to hold enough so it would not slip.

Works Well for Me !
So I have two of them so far - anything to help keep stock against the fence, and fingers away from the blade - is a great help - especially when ripping long, long stock down to "dimensional lumber." I would sat this is a safety "must," and easilly worth purchasing at this reasonable price.

I bought this feather board for my table saw to hold thin stock against the fence while ripping. It has two adjustment knobs, one of which spreads an aluminum insert in the miter slot to lock the feather board in place. Although it is plastic, it works very well, and is a good value.

This featherboard is the only one...
This featherboard is the only one that I've found works consistently well for use on my Bosch jobsite table saw. I have JessEm and looked at Kreg, but they are clearly made for predominately router table use. The adjustment slots in the Bench Dog are longer and allow a greater range of adjustment for standard cutting. Most of my work is with large stock, dimension lumber or trims for primarily Craftsman style work. I have not had the T-handle problem, and have had one of my two featherboards for over 4 years with periodic use.

I've had this tool for a...
I've had this tool for a few months, and found it is easy to set up and works perfectly. My one complaint is that the adjuster knobs failed after only a few uses. The 1/4-20 nut spun in the soft plastic 'T' handle with only moderate tightening force. The easy and entirely satisfactory fix was to replace the adjuster knobs with steel wingnuts.

Easy to use and adjust. Fits miter slot with no issues. Holds wood with just the right pressure. Time will tell if it holds up to the demand but so far so good.
