Book Giveaway: Shop Drawings for Craftsman Furniture

[Editor's note: The contest is over and the three lucky winners are: Keith M. from Ohio, Thad G. from Michigan, and Mark W. from Ohio! If you're looking to buy this book, Bob Lang stopped by the blog to let us know that it is available on his website: craftsmanplans.com. We do have Bob's second book, More Shop Drawings for Craftsman Furniture available here at Rockler. Thanks for participating, everybody - we'll do this again soon. Be sure to subscribe to Buzz Saw if you haven't already, so you don't miss a thing!]

This week we've got something fun: three copies of the book Shop Drawings for Craftsman Furniture: 27 Stickley Designs for Every Room in the Home to give away to our readers!

This fabulous book by Robert W. Lang gives 27 examples of "the sturdy, straightforward, and immensely popular oak furniture designed by Gustav Stickley and his associates early in the 20th century." Lang's new drawings are carefully checked against Stickley original catalogs and antique pieces. With this book you'll have "the heart of the Craftsman aesthetic along with all the information needed for success in [today's] workshop."

Whether you are already a woodworker and furniture maker, you've always wanted to try your hand at Stickley-inspired furniture, or you just know someone who would really enjoy this book, leave a comment below! We will pick three winners by random drawing on Wednesday afternoon, March 17th. (Hey - that's St. Patty's Day, and the book is green! Coincidence? ...Yup!)

To be eligible to win, just post a comment here on the blog (below) before noon CST on Wednesday, March 17th. For even more chances, tweet, blog or post the link to this post ( http://bit.ly/BookGiveaway ) on your Facebook wall: Then come back here and leave a comment with a link showing where you posted it, and we'll put your name in the hat again! (Be sure to leave a valid e-mail address in the comment form, so we can reach you if you win!) Good luck!

# Posted By Howard Schaefer | 3/15/10 6:35 PM
My favorite furniture-related movie quote comes from "Another Stakeout." When the main characters get to their stakeout home, Rosie O'Donnell notices that there's a ton of Stickley furniture in the house - commenting "It's my favorite." Both Emilio Estevez and Richard Dreyfuss reply mockingly in unison "Stickley is our favorite!"

Hi Jim-- As I mentioned above (you mean you didn't read all 98 comments above yours??) I have now learned my lesson about running a giveaway with a book that we no longer carry! We haven't stocked this title for quite a while, and these were three leftover copies. You can, however, still find it on Amazon, and several other places, so you can still find it even if you don't happen to win it here! Thanks so much for your interest! Kim

However, we do still carry the follow-up book: More Shop Drawings for Craftsman Furniture, which is the same as the first, but with 30 new drawings/plans. That book is available here: http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=16691 Kim

I think this book would be a great addition to the redneck dowry he will be receiving. He makes cabinets for everyone else. Then he can use my tools (oops his tools) to make me some beautiful furnature for our new home together.

I had admired Stickley furniture for many years. I have tried to build a few simple pieces in the past with varying success. I have found material selection to be a critical factor. I have seen this book on the shelf and have flipped through it a number of times, but have not yet purchased. It would be great to 'win' it here.

I'd love to get my hands on that book - craftsman furniture was what initially drew my eye to furniture making!

What a great book! Bob Lang may be called "Silent Bob" at Popular Woodworking, but his work screams Craftsman! His writing is a must read.

I would really enjoy a copy of this book. It's not easy finding the rift sawn wood for these projects, but it is worth the effort when the project is complete.

Now that I'm no longer working, this book will help me to get of the couch and fill my time with positive working, plus get the ol' Lady off my back hopefully, and a good reason to hit those gararage sales for needed tools.
