Overview

Unlike most other center finders, the Blokkz "Squid" lets you quickly and easily find the center of square and rectangular stock in addition to the usual round stock. It also acts as a centering punch, as it features an integral sharpened awl, which slides up and down through the center to suit the size of your material. The four notched legs snugly straddle your material for accurate results, every time. Works with a range of diameters from less than 1/4" to a maximum of 2-3/8", and with on-edge material up to 1-5/8" thick. The punch rod is a sturdy 3/16" diameter stainless steel rod housed in a polycarbonate shell that can be easily disassembled should the need arise to sharpen the tip.

  • Legs of the punch are notched to accurately center punch rectangular, round and square material.
  • Ideal for pen turning and other spindle turning projects.
  • Maximum width of round and square material is 2-3/8" by 2-3/8".
  • Minimum material diameter is less than 1/4".
  • Maximum thickness of on-edge material is 1-5/8".
  • The Squid is easily disassembled in the event the punch needs to be sharpened.
  • Made of high strength polycarbonate with a stainless steel punch rod.
  • Hanger hole allows you to hang the Squid on a shop peg or nail.
  • Assembly Required: Assemble Squid with bolts supplied. For best accuracy, tighten bolts until punch rod starts to bind and then back off slightly to allow the punch rod to slide freely.

There are cheaper options out there that work far better

John Posted December 7, 2013
I bought this center finder before I purchased the cheaper stock center finder - and I wish I hadn't. This thing is almost useless. I like the idea of it - and I have no complaints about the quality of it - but it simply doesn't do a good job of finding the center because of how it is designed. The notches on the inside of the legs are too shallow, and as a result, once you have the tool placed atop your spindle, you can still move it around way too easily. So by the time you have it positioned, and your mallet raised, you've already wiggled the tool back and forth several times. Basically, there's just no real way to tell if you are perfectly level - which leads to many off-center marks. Save yourself $10 bucks, and go for the cheaper plastic one. It works far better.
