I bought some hinges before Christmas and liked them. The ones I have recently bought, were made in China and are not of the same quality and the hole pattern is different. Also they open too far.

I was apprehensive about the quality of these considering the more than reasonable price when compared to Brusso hinges. Let's face it though, when you make a good quality box and want to market it for the $100-$150 range it's hard to add $30.00 for the hinges and remain competitive. These hinges are very good for that market. I blogged the installation process: woodworksbyjohn.blogspot.com/2013/04/enjoying-process-vs-power-tools-worth-it.html Small screws are always a concern but these are not brass, only plated so pre-screwing wasn't needed. I used a #3 Vix bit and bees wax to lubricate the threads and had no problem with breakage.

I've used 2 pair of these hinges so far and have not had an issue. Used on one cherry and one walnut box. Pre drilled holes and had no screw breakage. The stop feature worked very well. A good quality stamped hinge for the price.

These hinges work very well for my small box applications. I have had zero problems with screws breaking. I do wish that the hinges were slightly more substantial but they are a very economical alternative to the high end solid brass versions.

After I read the other reviews that reported problems with the supplied screws I bought some set of these hinges. Then I counter-sunk the holes with a regular counter sink for wood screws so that the holes are now 7/32". This countersinking lets me use brass plated 1/2" #4 screws. Before I use visegrips to hold the head of a steel #4 one-inch screw and pre-screw the holes to ease the way for the brass-plated #4 1/2" screws. This effort works very well and the Rockler hinges work great !
