- Ceramic Guide Blocks for Bandsaws, 4-Pack
Overview
The secret is in the material! These guide blocks are made of Aluminum-Oxide - the same material used to make ceramic products for NASA. They create far less friction to provide a cooler running blade and truer tracking. You'll get guide block seat tolerance of +/-.005. Outlasts every other guideblock on the market!

Band saws use blocks on either side of the blade to control its tendency to wander from side to side and since friction developed, the blocks can become very hot and wear out. Ceramic blocks are very slippery and can handle high temperatures making them a better choice than many standard blocks and a less expensive alternative to ball bearing arrangements. They are highly recommended by woodworking experts.

The stock hard plastic guide blocks on my 14" Jet bandsaw tend to get eaten a bit so I hope these solve that.

I need to replace some blocks and these look to be better than standard blocks and far less expensive than the ideal roller guides.

Can I make these fit model vbs 1408 ?
Bubss
on Jan 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Not that I can see just out of package. Perhaps with modification of bracket and the blocks this could be done. But again just out of package I don't believe they would work.

Will these fit the vans 1408 ?
Bubss

BEST ANSWER: Sorry, but I don't know. They were perfect in my Jet bandsaw. If you have the manual for your tool, see if it lists the guideblocks' dimensions and check against the dimensions of these. Also, I believe the guide blocks would be fairly standard for a 14: bandsaw. Good Luck!

Ceramic guide blocks just work!
After putting up with the stock hard plastic guide blocks that came with my 14" Jet bandsaw, having to turn them to get a smooth side after using once or twice (since they tend to get chopped up pretty easy), these are fantastic to use and do the job. They spark some when the blade comes in contact due to user error but better than what I was used to. Love these!

A great, but not expensive, investment
I upgraded my Delta 1960-vintage 14" bandsaw with these ceramic guide blocks. Easy to install and, using a automotive-type sparkplug gauge, I was able to set them with a .002" clearance. The first benefit I noticed was the accuracy in resawing boards. Saw blade doesn't twist. I definitely recommend these.

My 1960 vintage Delta 14" bandsaw. Very easy to install and able to set at a .002" clearance.

Super Blocks
Super improvement the over std guide blocks. Had contemplated these and the ball bearing blocks. Could not imagine how the ball bearing guides could over any improvement for the money difference.

Replaced the original guides
Replaced the original guides after 30 yrs and now wondering what took me so long. So far so good. They pointed out I need to keep up with blades and stop the rusting long storage times.

These are better than roller guides...
We retrofitted our Laguna 18" saw with ceramic guides from SpaceAge Ceramics (which we got from Rockler). We have used various saws and guides in the past, but these are great. There is no heat buildup, they are quiet, less expensive than rollers, never wear, and don't clog up with sap.
They also have thrust bearings made of ceramic that are quiet and they don't spin - they are stationary - so they don't wear out like rollers.

I like them.
Like what they were made for, but I have found that I have to check to see if they are tight in the block. Can't get it tight enough to hold them tight!

They work ok
I previously owned a very nice bandsaw and it had roller guides, and I was spoiled by how good they worked. I unfortunately had to sell it for a move I made and ended up buying an older smaller bandsaw and decided to buy the ceramic inserts instead of the retro roller guides which were more expensive. I wish I had invested the money for the roller guides. The ceramic ones are ok but nothing will compare to a good set of roller guides.
