Klaus Workbench

Workbench of maple, oak, cherry, and ash. Plans in the Workbench Book

Project Description:
This workbench is a classical Northern European design. It was presented by Frank Klaus in the Workbench Book by Scott Landis (Taunton Press). It is ideal for cabinet work. I found the 4-inch thick pieces of oak and cherry as fence posts and planed them down - much more affordable. At the beginning of the project, it was beyond my skill level, so I just took one piece at a time and learned the technique that was required. The book gave great instructions. Now, I use this bench every day. It's great for dovetail joints in drawers, planing long boards, and holding pieces for routing or scraping. The bench dogs are cut from oak boards, so they do not mar the pieces being clamped. I recommend the project for any woodworker who could use a versatile bench. The book has many other styles if this does not suit you. Stay safe.
