Captain's Bed |

Project Description: The conception of this project came out of the need to have more room in my daughter's bedroom. We also wanted more storage without the need for a dresser to help open up her room with space. We had looked around at furniture stores and saw a lot of great designs but the products were expensive and made out of inferior products. We didn't mind spending the money but most of the pre-made bed units were made of particle board. So I designed her Captain's Bed based on models were saw and I just customized it for a full size mattress. It was simple enough if you have experience building cabinets (just building boxes). The pullout desk was a little tricky but it came out nice. I would have to say the hardest part of this project was doing it all out of my garage. When it came time to paint it, I used a power sprayer that left a nice smooth finish but prep time and clean up was brutal. All in all, we are very happy with it. I just finished a custom ladder that fits into the "notch" in the footboard at the end of the bed. Time to Build: 21-50 Hours Difficulty: Moderate |
