Project Description: This was originally a request from my wife for our new house. This year it became a Christmas present for her too. I used some 7/8 red oak My Dad and I had picked up from a local mill. I've seen the cheep plastic dividers and even a decent China attempt at these dividers, but I wanted to have something nice for my wife. I started by taking some dimensions of the drawer and a store bought divider, then rearranging the openings. I cut the boards to a rough length and width, then ran them through a planer to get the 5/16 thickness. After checking my layout, I cut the dados on a radial arm saw. I did some light sanding with a belt sander and a palm sander. It's all held together by the friction of the joints and two brads in each joint. after assembly I ran the palm sander over the top to even the joints before running it across the router table. I used an 1/8 in round over bit just to knock the sharp edges of each section. The last thing was to wipe it down with a tack cloth and rub some Formby's Low Gloss Tung Oil. I have plans to do a knife drawer and a large utensil drawer too. Time to Build: 6-20 Hours Difficulty: Moderate |
