Project Description: This is a bread box based off a design my Dad made about twenty-five years ago and is still standing strong. I changed a few of the dimensions and use of fasteners. It's done with red oak and stained to match our cabinets. I wanted to use finger joints to join the back to the sides, but I ran out of time since this was a Christmas present for my wife. I used pocket screws to hold the top down because I don't care for exposed fasteners. The roll top is backed by canvas with the ends sanded to a taper. I stained it with some of the left over stain from the trim in our new house. I put two coats of Minwax Sanding Sealer on rubbing it down with steel wool between applications. Then I finished it with Minwax Satin Polyurethane to match the finish on our cabinets. It ended up matching pretty well. I may take it back apart someday and do the finger joints when I have more time. Time to Build: 21-50 Hours Difficulty: Moderate |
