Project Description: When I set out to make a jewelry box for my wife, I wanted it to be customized to make everything easy to find with "a place for everything and everything in it's place". My goal for the functional design was to have organized compartments so that jewelry would not be tangled up with earrings and earring pairs would stay together. Basically, I designed this project as I built it. The wood is hickory and padauk with maple and walnut inlays. The project started out with a dovetail design and evolved over a period of time. I used brass knobs from Rockler on all doors. The inside of each compartment is lined with red self-adhesive velvet from Rockler. The drawer contains a red velvet ring bar from Rockler. As the design developed, I wanted to utilize all available space thus side compartments were built to house Rockler's brass chain carousels for necklaces and bracelets. The finish is a boiled linseed oil and varnish mix. My wife loves it.
