Can this product (E342) be mounted to the wall without actually going between the studs?
BEST ANSWER: Theoretically yes but it depends on how you are thinking of mounting it. The side are made of poplar but the back is just hardboard that is just stapled on. If you added some sort of additional support cleats from the inside it might work that way. You have to keep in mind though that if you mount it normally (recessed) it would still project 2 3/4 inches. Without recessing it, it projects an additional 4 inches and that is not including the door. For the construction quality I would NOT recommend buying this product. If you have even the most basic woodworking skills, you can create this on your own for far less money. I wish I would have.

How far does the board extend when down....and does it swivel?
