- DeWalt DCA2203C 18V-20V Battery Adapter Kit
Overview
DeWalt's line of 18V cordless tools has been enormously popular, but with evolving battery technology, the Ni-Cad 18V platform is being replaced with the lighter, more compact Li-Ion 20V MAX platform. This battery adapter allows owners of the older 18V tools to install and use the new 20V MAX batteries, greatly extending the life of their tools. Because the 20V batteries are so much lighter in weight, the combined weight of the adapter and 20V battery is still less than the weight of the older equivalent 18V battery. Allows for use of 20V MAX* Compact Batteries in most DEWALT 18V Tools Adapter will not fit into DEWALT 18V Chargers—charging requires use of the included DEWALT 20V MAX* charger.
Important Notes
- Shipping Restrictions: Ground Transportation Only
- The 20V batteries cannot be charged on 18V chargers, even when mounted to this adapter. To charge the 20V batteries, use the included 20V charger.
- Do not use the Battery Adapter with Premium Batteries (DCB200, DCB204, DCB204BT, DCB205) in 18V Compact drills DC970, DC759 (use DCB201, DCB203, DCB203BT compact batteries)

With the Rockler Protection Plan, you'll get accidental damage coverage immediately upon purchase of your tool. Plus, we will extend the manufacturer's warranty for your choice of an additional 1 or 2 years. We'll take care of all parts and labor for any repairs, with no deductibles and no hassles. Jimmy G

BEST ANSWER: Yes, it works in all my 18V tools just fine. Dewalt has identified a couple drive drivers that limit the battery you can use, but the only issue I have heard is making sure the adapter locks securely on the tool.

Rockler has great deals on DeWalt Products
I have purchased 3 of these kits. I have a full set of 18 volt tools
and they work even better with the 20 volt adapters & 20 volt batteries. Also batteries are handy for my 20 Volt driver & drill when doing larger projects. Extra chargers are great for keeping batteries fresh & ready to work!

Awesome
I use this adapter today with the 18V skill saw while loading in a show today at the theater. What a difference the 20v battery made in weight, power and use time. My co workers were very impressed, and may have sold a couple. I have the skill saw and saws-all so it was win win when in got this kit. Plus I have the 20 V drill and impact set as well, so it upped me to 4 batteries !! Great deal and product @@

DeWalt LI conversion kit.
I am a homeowner/hobbiest, so I can't speak from a commercial point of view, but the L I battery conversion works very well for me. Faster charging and much lighter weight. I consider it a fair value as I have the drill/paneling saw combo, so was able to extend the life of both tools.

Great kit
For me, this kit has worked out great. My original 18 volt batteries were nearing the end of their working life, but the tools were in too good a condition to throw away. The adaptor fits well and the power the batteries provide is welcomed.

Good for DeWalt!
Works like a charm. More power and longevity. It's about time the tool industry started making adaptations so our tools don't become obsolete so quickly.

Needed new batteries anyway
My 18 volt cordless drill is one of my favorite tools in the garage. I had already replaced both of the Ni-Cad batteries and it was time to replace them again. I had been putting it off because of the cost pf twp batteries would be $100 plus tax and I had been delaying. When the advertisement came it from Rockler for an upgrade it was a no contest. Not only did I get 20 volt lithium power, they are lighter even with the adapter. The only down side is that the unit is now a little taller and will not fit in ht original case without removing the battery. No big deal,so overall a good deal even without the the Rockler gift card in the advertisement.

Dewalt Preventing "Planned Obsolescence"
This adapter will let me keep my older Dewalt tools going while I upgrade to the more powerful 20 volt tools being sold currently.

Dewalt 20 volt lithium conversion
Great update. 20 volt lithium are super. Last long time and recharge quickly. Cannot leave them plugged into the adapter though or they will discharge overnight sitting there.

Best bridge to 20v Conversion
I have 6 18v tools with 2 battery packs that would still hold a charge and 4 that need to be repacked. This was an excellent way to bridge migrating to the 20v system w/o selling my 18v tools for pennies on the dollar.

Excellent.
...a great device to extend the useful lifetime of DeWalt's great line of 18V handheld tools.

Positive Review
So far the L-ion batteries seem to work fine along with the charger. They work fine in my 18 Volt tools. The only problem I have with them is that they no longer fit in my plastic box. Maybe with a little trimming...
I like the idea of going to 20 volts. I would buy more for myself and recommend them to a friend.

New life for old tools
This kit brought a lot of my older Dewalt tools back to life. The 18V batteries fizzled out after about 8 years of regular use, and I'm glad I bought the 20V batteries instead of replacement 18V. The 20V are so much lighter and hold consistent power for longer. My only drawback is what other reviewers said that the fit of the adapter is pretty tight. I assume that the more I switch it between tools the plastic should show a wear point you could hit with some sandpaper to make a better fit. Although the benefits definitely out weight any draw backs.

Great product offering
This adapter is a great way to utilize the 18V tools I had, but was not using very much because the 18V NiCd batteries have a very short run life. Don't hesitate to invest in this adapter.

Great idea
I love the ability to purchase the newer and less expensive batteries to use in my older Dewalt tools that I will never give up. The only downside is the release for the device is so difficult to release I may have to buy them for all my older devices and just move the battery instead of the adapter. (Probably why they made them so hard:-))

Old 18v tools with a new life
Adapter is a little difficult to remove from some of my tools, but it works great and lasts almost as long as the original 18v batteries. Much, Much lighter and easier to handle than the original 18v batteries. They were so heavy.

Like The Green Concept
It appears that my 18 volt battery lasted longer than the new 20 volt style.

Does the job.
The adapter does what it is suppose to do. I like the lighter batteries. My only complaint is that the adapter is very difficult to get out of my old (DW995) drill.

Not for all DeWalt cordless
I was sick of replacing DeWalt 18v nicad batteries so I bought this converter kit. It works fine on my circ saw, jig saw, but not in my Charger/Radio or my finish nailer. Not sure about my vacuum but probably will have the same problem as the radio in that there is not enough room in the charging area to close the door.
So, if you use their drills and impact driver etc. as well as most of their tools, you are good to go and can use the superior and lighter 20v lithium batteries in those legacy tools.
DeWalt is trying to make good on failing to make their old tools compatible with the new batteries.
But they are not the only ones with that issue.

All Systems Working Well
After an initial issue with getting the batteries to take a full charge, the system is now operating as advertised. If you have a similar issue, would suggest you try charging with a standard charger first ( not the rapid charger).

Great idea from the Dewalt
I have been well pleased that I can use my 18 V Dewalt equipment now with the new adapter along with the 20 V lithium-ion batteries. A lot lighter in weight

Product works well but is extremely hard to remove from drill body. Dealt needs to improve release mechanism.

DeWalt Adapter
It's a joke! You can't leave a batter in the adapter attached to a tool without the battery running down!? I probably should have given it two stars, but I like the backward compatibility.

Disappointed.
I bought this product because i was getting tired of replacing those expensive old style batteries but did mot want to buy a new yet another drill or impact. Upon getting the kit home i found both batteries charged and worked well. Next day the battery i had left in the drill was dead and would not take a charge. I have not yet received replacement battery from Dewalt.
