IMHO this is without doubt THE BEST Portable (103 lb.?) Planer on the Market!

This unit is fantastic and with the large footprint and weight I have never found the need to bolt it down. A great feature about it is the to speed gearbox which gives you mirror like surfaces. One word to the wise though, don't ever loan it to your friend, that is unless you want to buy another one because my friend who busted a gear on his DeWalt 734 planer fell in love with it and insisted on paying me every last cent I paid for it and the Wixey Digital Depth Gauge, The Rubbermaid Roughneck 32 Gallon container AND the DW7353 chip collector which I haven't been able to find anywhere because I think DeWalt stopped making them. Anyway I got my new one for $52.00 cheaper than I paid for the Original but as I said I havn't been able to find the chip collector and they used to include a chip dispersal attachment that they no longer include along with the previously above mentioned arms for the power cord although you can just as easily wrap the cord around the two handles on both top sides of the planer which is no big deal. One thing to know about it is that if you try hooking it up to your shop vac or shop vac & Dust Deputy combination the built in blower will over power the 2 1/2" hose assembly and blow the hose loose from the planer, Dust Deputy or shop vac, which ever has the loosest fit. I ended up just letting the chips fly out into the yard from the 4" hose and stay out of its way because those chips really come flying out of that hose. After I got the chip collector I didn't have that problem but now since I can't find a chip collector I opted for Rockler's Portable Dust Collector with the Oneida black molded Super Dust Deputy Unit and 17 gallon metal drum. I just hope it is powerful enough to power the Dust Deputy with my other machines. The planer I don't think I will have a problem with but my jointer, table saw, drill press and router table I'm keeping my fingers crossed. If it isn't powerful enough hopefully I can get the original motor beefed up to 1 or 1 1/2 HP by a local friends shop. But in ending if you want THE BEST Portable 13" Planer on the Market the DeWalt DW735X is definitely the one to get.

Works on Teak

Although I have had this planer for a year I could not be happier. Needed to plane down a rough cut piece of Teak for a BBQ cart I am building for a friend and wow the cuts were clean and ready to use once I got the thickness needed. I will now use it along with my box joint jig to make those 3/8" or 1/2" boxes. Thanks DeWalt and Rockler

Works Great, but parts missing

flaplante Posted November 12, 2013
I just got this today and have it mounted and tested. Works great on the 2ft piece of pine I tested with. But reading over the manual (I know BIG mistake) I discovered that there is suposed to be a set of arms to strap the power cord around. Nice idea, but when I looked all I can find is the mounting holes for something, but no arms. I guess the economy caught up with DeWalt and something had to go. Just glad to see it wasn't the knives they left off. Only 4 stars due to missing parts, otherwise it woud be 5.

But based on my impressions during installation and my quick test, this planer will be a big improvement over it's 15-yr old predecessor. I'm looking forward to another 15 years of chip making.
