I agree with Duncan’s previous review with regard to the stiffness of the bristles when using shorter bits. I experienced two “crash and burns” that were my fault for attempting to use the dust boot with short bits. I looked at other dust boots and finally decided to modify the existing one. I inspected the existing boot and found the existing brushes could be removed and replaced by removing the retaining screws. Also it looks like you could directly replace the brush strips with brush strips of various heights with 3/16 wide brush strips available from an industrial suppler( such as McMaster-Carr). I decided to also the Aluminum strip brush holder too. This will make it easier to change the brush strips than using the screws. I ordered brush strips 1, 2 & 3 inch heights to accommodate various bit lengths.

The dust boot does a fairly good job of helping contain the dust. The mount is fairly well thought out and convenient to use. However, the brush bristles are too stiff. Stiff enough to cause some flex of the gantry and "bobbles" in the cut when the router changes direction in a deep cut. On shallow cuts with short bits, such that the bristles are pressed against the surface a bit, there can be enough back pressure on the gantry to affect depth of cut noticeably versus making the same cut without the dust boot. We are going to try replacing the brushes with a limper material to see if we can remedy the problem
