Just what I needed

John V. Posted June 26, 2014
Not being able to run duct work to one area of my shop was a huge problem. I opted to setup a short run of rigid 2½" clear pipe with blast gated Y-fittings and a Dust Right® 2.5" Tool Ports on one end (the other is gated off). This allows me to connect my central cyclone dust collector via a 4" hose and a couple of Dust Right® Handle to this "satellite" duct work system. Now I can get dust collection to my bandsaw, drill press, scrollsaw and router table when I need it. Brilliant idea folks.

The adapter does exactly what it is expected to do - adapts from a standard male 2 1/2" dust port to a size which fits the Dust Right® Handle. The unit comes with a ring clamp to attach the flexible 2 1/2" end around the 2 1/2" OD port on your tool. The adapter is designed in such a way that a flange on the plastic Dust Right® seats in a groove in the flexible couple end. However, as others have reported, the fit between this flange and the flexible coupler is not tight enough to support the weight or pull of the Dust Right® hose, and it will keep coming apart. As such, you will have to purchase a second ring clamp to tighten around this interface between the hard plastic and the flexible coupling to stop the whole thing from coming apart in use. Once the second ring clamp is added, it works flawlessly.

Just what I needed for my oscillating spindle sander. However, it does need extra clamps to keep the weight of the Dust Right handle from pulling it apart. Other than that flaw, it is useful.
