These low-profile threaded inserts work especially well on thin materials such as exposed veneer seating. The secret is in the "shouldered" edge, plus the 1/4-20 thread with a bolt stop feature that prevents the bolts from being threaded through the insert.

and eliminate pull out. Thread depth is 3/16''. Overall depth is 9/32''.
Use 1/2'' mounting hole for hardwoods, 7/16'' for softer material.

I had no idea how to install these. Finally drilled 1/2 inch hole in end grain red oak . Threaded a bolt in the insert and drove it into the hole. Had to use gorilla glue on few to get them to stay. Had no luck at all trying to thread into the wood. Once lined up and secured, seems to work OK.
