Overall, I'm glad I bought this product and will definitely do so again.
On the downside, there were a couple minor dents from shipping, tooling marks (snipe and tearout on some pieces), and a very small knot on one piece. (Squaring the ends also seems prudent.) That's the full disclosure.
All that said, it was all easy to work around and the wood is of better quality than I've seen at my local hardwood store, where the wood has more serious problems. I bought a bunch of pieces for a face frame and each piece always had at least one perfect (or near perfect) side, it was all straight (something difficult to find locally, and I don't have a jointer), and the grain and color were nice and very consistent. In short, given the price and convenience, the quality is very reasonable and all the wood was usable. I really did have no waste, and I would not hesitate to do this again. (I plan to, actually, for another project coming up soon). So I would say "go for it".

I purchases both Birch & Osage from Rockler. . . the order was processed and delivered promptly. . . I'd have to rate all the pieces of lumber I received as above average. . . I've been a model ship-wright for about 20 years. . . working with small scales means obtaining the straightest and tightest grain possible. . . Rockler came through with flying colors. . . Keep up the good work !!!

I recently finished a remodel in my kitchen. I used all full thickness birch for the cabinets and door/drawer fronts. I did not want to puchase 3/4 thick birch, because of the price and the waste involved, so used the 1/2 inch from Rockler to make end panels on all of the upper cabinets. Saved me a lot of time, and money by doing it this way. The service couldnt have been better, the merchandise was shipped and delivered as promised. I will continue to purchase through Rockler for additional jigs and specialty products, like the 1/2 inch birch

I'd rate it a 5 because it was straight & free of defects; my only problem was that it was what I'd call a red birch, not a yellow - seeing as there are so many variations in birch it would be helpful if Rockler would post a better description.
Editor's note: Birch lumber offered is white birch.

My order for 1/2" birch was delivered promptly. I was disappointed in the quality of the lumber; the surface was pitted and showed many tooling makings. The price quoted reflects an expectation of good quality material, which I did not get.
Editor's note: Our customer service at 800-376-7856 will be able to assist with replacment.

I ordered several widths and lengths. All was received as ordered and the wood quality was excellent. The birch was free of any defects and nicely grained with enough figure to be interesting. Thickness was slightly oversized (around 0.790)but I intended to plane it down anyway. A previous order of maple was also very good quality.
I will be making an inlaid silver chest with the wood.
