I was able to produce better cuts in wood veneer with a regular utility knife and a sharp blade than with this tool. I would not recommend it for this use.

I only bought the cutting mat. The mat works great but smells like you have a skunk living inside of it. The smell is terrible, any way to get rid of the smell?

I am in the process of refacing a kitchen and the rotary cutter worked well for cutting the veneer in the direction of the grain. The blade has a little trouble going against the grain. After making 15 or so cuts, the blade kept retracting into its safety position and required that one hold down the blade in order to cut.
Over all this is a good tool for cutting with the grain.
