I use to hold pieces while sanding. Piece holds well to mat but mat slides on table (masonite surface)as readily as the wood piece does. At least it keeps wood piece from getting scratches, etc. I'm thinking of trying a light reusable adhesive on back side of mat to temporarily hold to work surface.

For large pieces it works great for sanding with either a hand held orbital sander or a belt sander. As for smaller pieces I found that they tend to bounce around a lot and move out of position.
I have not tried it yet with my router.

Great product for the price. Has many more uses than just a router. I use it as a vice for flat wood while belt sanding, finish sanding, hand planing, and it works great if cut to size for keeping tools stationary on a bench that would ordinarily be bolted down or wouldn't stay on their own. Very handy. I keep 2 in my shop all the time for multiple uses and probably replace them twice a year as I spend several hours at this hobby year round. It is a night and day difference in convenience for less than 10$ each.

This product works well holding the project steady while sanding. However, several times it left a black "mat" pattern on the already sanded side when I turned the piece over to sand the reverse side. Additional sanding was required because of it.

I used mine for routing and found the mesh design allows for dust and chips to easily get below the mat which then starts to slide. I bead routed a 9"x10" piece and one lap around the wood is all I could do before the mat started to slide, so I have to clean under the mat frequently. The mesh design is good for folding, but then the folds don't sit flat and I had them catch on the bottom of my router bit as I went around a piece of wood. This caused an obvious problem with the router moving smoothly and damaged the mat. I'd look for solid rubber mat that can be stored in a roll.
