Safety Tips:
It's easy to prevent mishaps if you take a few simple precautions.
1) Rockler recommends using 1/2'' shank router bits whenever possible.
1/2'' shanks provide better stability with less vibration to produce a smoother
cut and longer cutter life. 2) Make multiple light passes rather than one heavy cut. 3) Install your router bit so that 90% of the shank is inside the
collet. Here's a rule of thumb: fully insert the bit, then pull it back
1/16 to 1/8 of an inch. 4) Use a router table whenever possible. 5) When using large diameter bits, reduce the RPM of your router.
Then test your set-up on scrap lumber. 6) Always follow your router manufacturer's recommendations.

Excellent product! Cuts effortlessly and gives a very clean slot. Bisucits fit perfectly and give a secure joint. What I really like about this method is that the 2 halves that are being joined line up perfectly for gluing, which has not been the case for me using mortise/tenons or dowels. The biscuits are also much easier to use although I would expect the joints may not be as strong as these other methods. For my application, joining 45 deg corners on a fireplace hearth this was the best and, perhaps, only way to go.

As with all Rockler router bits, this cutter cuts great; smooth and true. However, when buying a biscuit cutter head you would expect that the cutter would make a slot the correct size for a buscuit. Standard biscuit cutter heads come in 2 sizes, 4" and 2" diameter. This head is neither. This is only a slot cutter that has bearings to set the biscuit depth.

The biscuit cutter set works very well, especially when it is on the shaft in the right way. There were no instructions so I had it on the wrong way at first and wound up making a lot of smoke. It is also very important to keep a hand held router flat while making the cut.
