Brusso hinges are the only hinges worth buying. The hinge will support the lid and is strong enough to not stress itself.
These hinges work as a lid stop so you don't have to buy that hokey looking arm to keep the lid from falling back.

I drilled 1/16" pilot holes 5/8" deep, followed by 3/32" holes 3/8" deep in my wood box. The screws went in with no problem and without any tendency for the heads to be marred by torque. However I did find one thing to be aware of with these hinges. Since they're not 180-degree hinges, it's difficult to align the box and lid perfectly when drilling the holes. The front corners of my box lid are offset from the base by about a millimeter. There's probably a trick to aligning that I haven't yet learned. Making templates that perfectly align the pilot holes would probably help.

Love the hinges - but the screws were terrible. Even with very carefully pre-drilled holes I still stripped them when turning them by hand. That is always so frustrating. For the price they should come with some better screws. I actually stripped 4 of the 8 screws and bagged them altogether. Local home center had better ones, so now the hinges are secure and working great.

I've used these hinges before. The screws are weak with hardwoods. Even with pilot holes. To remedy this, drill your pilot holes, use a steel screw the same size as your brass screws to make the threads. Then remove the steel screw and install the brass screws in your pre-threaded holes.

Hinges are great, screws are weak, I found that if I drill pilot holes and then coat the screws with wax or soap they do not break as often, but the screws are definitely sub-standard.

I cut these to fit a small box, but didn't insert them yet. They look nice and seem like they are well made. I only hope that the screws hold up on my shallow lid. My only pet-peeve is that they are some what expensive.

I have not broken any screws as the other reviewers, but I did find that the Phillips head slots strip out easily.
"Recieved our order of glass and wire mesh. All items arrived intact, which was no surprise considering the impressive packaging.
I've dealt with what many companies consider appropriate packaging, which, at best is hit-and-miss.
The packaging methods you folks employ are second to none.
Thank you.
