Small, low profile hinge for jewelry, pencil boxes, and many other small-box
applications.
Solid brass hinge for those small jewelry or pencil boxes. Installation
requires cutting a 45 degree bevel and drilling 5mm holes. Hinge is 15mm
(9/16") long overall x 5mm (3/16") diameter.

These hinges worked perfectly for me just following the directions they came with. My only minor complaint is the hinges themselves are a little loose. No big deal, but if I tap the tops of the small boxes I used them on, I can hear a little rattle.

These cylinder hinges provide the best and easiest to install small box hinges I've ever used. The 5 mm bit provides a hole with good fit.

I found that this product was good for small projects. The hinges are a little tricky to glue. But, a little patience and some solvent will go a long way to a decent finished result.

When I purchased this product, I also purchased a 5mm Metric Brad Point Drill Bit. The hinges are fine. However, the 5mm Metric Brad Point Drill Bit drills a 3/16" hole. The hinges fall into these holes. I drilled a sample hole using my old 5mm Metric Brad Point Drill Bit and the new hinges fit nice and tight like they should. I make mesquite jewerly boxes and I now have three boxes with 3/16" holes. Any suggestions on what I should do with the new drill bit and the three boxes?
Editor's note: Fred, these hinges have a glue retention groove as part of their design. It is common to use a drop of glue in the holes drilled to secure the hinges in place once all test fitting is completed.

Fred Miller may be experiencing some kind of run out on his drill press (or movement on his hand-held drill), as 3/16in. = 4.7625mm. That is, these should not drop into a 3/16th" hole. I know, I just drilled a hole on a box with a 3/16th bit and can't get the hinge to go in- even after tapping with a hammer! I strongly recommend buying a true 5mm bit, measuring the bit with a set of calipers and testing on scrap for run out before working on your project.
Other than that, these are great hinges and solve a tricky problem pretty easily.

Hinges are too small to work no matter how perfect you are. The 45 degree cut even when perfect leave not enough bond to hold lid tightly. They come loose even when glued. I've been doing this for a long time.
