Crown Brass Back Gent's Saw

Manufactured by Crown Hand Tools, these saws keep a thinner blade stiff by reinforcing it with a brass back.

Designed for cutting box joints, dovetails, any joinery and fine model making. Made with a straight handle that extends from the top back of the blade. Blades are resharpenable high carbon steel. 6" has Beech handle and 17 TPI. 8" has Rosewood handle and 17 TPI. Depth of cut is 1-1/2''.

Initially I had some problems starting the cut but quickly realized it was a technique problem. I now find myself reaching for this saw more and more frequently as opposed to setting up my table or bandsaws and managed to cut a 1/8" tenon that was clean and dead straight with no need for clean up. Definitely worth the price and a quality addition to my meager hand tool collection.

2) Submitted by Bart from NJ on 4/1/2009 Customer Rating: I bought this saw to cut spruce for an aircraft project. Maybe my saw came from a bad batch but it isn't very sharp. It's really well made and the cut is relatively clean but cutting across the grain is difficult. I've returned to using X-acto razor saws.

3) Submitted by Felix, from Sanibel, FL on 4/30/2009 Customer Rating: Saw cut drastically to right side, a real curve. After dressing down the right side kerf several times I got a straight cut. A procedure that shouldn't have been necessary. It is now a "Good" saw.
