The plans themselves were decent enough, but did not include a lot of detail about how to assemble everything and keep the box square. To make the assembly of the main cabinet a little easier, I added 1/4 inch width and 1/8 inch depth to each shelf and cut a 1/8 inch dado into the sides and back to support them. By changing the lid to a frame and panel, I was able to put a sizable mirror underneath and a decorative accent on top. Adding dividers and coating the drawers with Suede-Tex made them a little more useful for small jewelry pieces.

Simple, straight forward, easily modified to make it "your own". My daughter-in-law loves it.

I made this jewelry box for my grandaughter 'Kayla. It was delivered on Christmas Eve 2008. We are expecting a new Grandaughter in May, so I will be adding this to my 'To Do List'.

I used this plan as a base for building a gift for my Mom's 70th birthday. The plan includes a cut list, patterns for cutting out the decorative base, assembly instructions with pictures, and a large parts layout diagram. The plan calls for using mahogany stock and a sheet of mahogany plywood, but I used walnut stock and birch plywood. Also, the plan assumes mostly butt joints and finishing nails, but I modified the plans slightly to use miter joints and biscuits. I would recommend this plan to anyone wanting to build a jewelry chest as it's easily modified to suit your needs (and Mom loved the final product !).
"My new favourite store!
I just finshed my very first woodworking project (A workbench of course...couldn't do much without it!) and I can honestly say I did it mistake-free because of the advice from Charlie at the Rockler Store on S.Lyndale Ave. in Minneapolis.
He sold me what I needed, not what I thought I needed. (which would have been about twice as much!) He was very patient with all my questions, and gave me great advice on how to do things.
These folks are knowledgable and extremely helpful.
