No problems at all using this - it sure helped me layout my gothic styled doors and windows for my grandkid's castle playhouse I'm building. The pin is useful to just tap in with a hammer to anchor it, and just grab the tape end and just swing it to make your arc. The locking mechanism kept the tape a constant length for consistency.

Excellent little product and does the job advertised. However... the downside to this beam compass is that it won't hold a standard pencil. This would have made this product much better.
