Safety Tips:
It's easy to prevent mishaps if you take a few simple precautions.
1) Rockler recommends using 1/2'' shank router bits whenever possible.
1/2'' shanks provide better stability with less vibration to produce a smoother
cut and longer cutter life.
2) Make multiple light passes rather than one heavy cut.
3) Install your router bit so that 90% of the shank is inside the
collet. Here's a rule of thumb: fully insert the bit, then pull it back
1/16 to 1/8 of an inch.
4) Use a router table whenever possible.
5) When using large diameter bits, reduce the RPM of your router.
Then test your set-up on scrap lumber.
6) Always follow your router manufacturer's recommendations. |

I'm cutting arches on 2-3/4" pieces of Red Oak clamped together. I use a jig saw to cut off the excess wood above the outline then use the router to form a perfect arch on both pieces at the same time. The patten bit works perfectly. Very happy with the price and quality of the product.

Great bit for the price. Bearing doesn't absorb dust too much. Blades stay sharp even after use in hardwood.

I used the router bit to enlarge holes for wiring in a router table I am building. Original holes were 1 1/4 but the only grommets available were 1 1/2 inch. The easiest way to enlarge the hole was to make a pattern in a piece of hard board and use the pattern bit to enlarge the hole.

Cuts well, the carbide seems thick enough so it can be sharpened when it finally needs it. The price was good for a quality bit.

Today I spent, off and on, all day cutting the tenons in the tabletop for the attachment of the breadboard ends. The adventure began early in the day when, during the process of setting-up my tablesaw with a dado blade to make the cuts, I discovered that the top was too long to be accurately manuevered on my saw table. I did some head scratching and surveyed my router bit inventory until I came up with a 3/4" diameter pattern-cutting bit (with a top-mounted pilot bearing)that I'd purchased from Rockler. It was still in its wax-covering! After a bit of searching for a suitably FLAT piece of 1-1/2" thick wood for use as a template, I proceeded to cut the 3/8" thick x 1-3/16" long x 32" wide tenons on each end of the table top. By the end of the day I'd completed the work.
The Rockler bit cut beautifully. I ended up with a HUGE pile of perfectly trimmed red oak shavings to attest to the sharpness of the bit. It paid for itself with this one job alone.

During a recent working vacation to the remote Alaska community of Tenakee Springs I had to build a set of stairs with ploughed stringers. After two brand new competitors pattern bits self destructed after ploughing through less than two feet of the virgin Douglas Fir, I ordered three replacements from Rockler (to be sure I had plenty). They were delivered on the fourth day after the order, (amazing) with the last leg of the trip being via float plane. One bit completed the work and is still in excellent condition.
Excellent product and service.
