I recently purchased the maching and noticed the guides do not support bands less than 1" wide. Is there a trick or maybe a guide for this size of band?

BEST ANSWER: I have the same machine and typically run 7/8th and 15/16th through it.
I set the bottom guide so there is a slight overhang on underside of the piece I am banding, then I loosen the upper guide, slide the banding in and check to see there is not too much play then tighten the upper guide.
It should work. Good luck.

I have had problems with 7/8" melamine tape.
It seems to "wander ", usualy higher on the material.
I have not managed to stop this and would not recomend this product to anybody untill they fix this problem.
I might have to make some sort of guide to keep tape on track.

Do i need glue for this machine?
A shopper
on May 2, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No you do not. But you need to buy a pre-glued edge band. The heat gun will melt it and it will adhere to your work piece. Note it takes some practice to adjust the gun temperature and adjustment of the guides. Once you have that set it works fine. It beats banding by hand using an iron.

Will this edge bander band a circle, such as a lazy Susan?
Robert W
on Feb 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This machine could band a circle, but without some pressure from the metal fences to keep the banding pressed tightly in place while the glue sets up, you might get variable results. If the prospect of hand ironing a lot of circles seems like a lot of drudgery, you could easily make a curved plywood "fence attachment" to add to this machine to do the job.

I build and finish furniture and kitchen cabinets out of a small shop. I recently picked up a kitchen cabinet job that was to be built as a frameless construction. Therefore, I needed an edgebander that was small enough that I could put aside when not in use. I found this edgebander after checking online sites. I have been extremely happy with the quality and ease of this product. It has already paid for itself in the time saved. We used to use an iron.Definitely a good purchase.

Does the job it's supposed to do at a high price
This is well built but very over-priced. I drilled a hole to hold the allen wrench that comes with it (see photo). I drilled through both layers of steel and then slightly into the rubber foot (with a smaller bit), so that it won't fall out. They should have done that for the price. Also would be more convenient if the banding support table could fold up for storage or at least have a quick release. You have to remove it with that loose allen wrench to make it more compact for storage. I added an indicator to know when to cut the banding so you don't waste too much. Again, should be included for the price. A simple vertical line on the fence is all that's needed. Like others have said, it takes a bit of futzing around with it to get the banding alinged on the low side, but it stays put once done.

Great product I would recommend it
For the price it is a good product and beats using the wife's iron. This machine must be adjusted when taken out of the box, you must adjust the guides to the right height of your workpiece. I build European style Cabinetry so I use this almost on a daily basis I have run thousands of feet of edge banding with it. As long as you keep it clean it will do its job

The bander gets the job done.
Over all the machine is okay. It does save time over using the iron. It's a little pricey for what you get though. This machine is made for smaller items, shorter items. I will modify for my needs.

Beats the iron
Nice little machine, obviously no full blown edge bander, but a nice compliment to a small shop that does occasional edge banding. A bit of setup tweaking, as expected, but certainly faster and better than an iron, and I can hang it up high on the wall out of the way to make the most of the small shop.

I have this machine and used it to make the cabinets in my house. works like a charm. I solved issue by marking a place on the infeed metal plate where when the back edge of the plywood meets it I hit the cutter. Works great. I leave about 1/2 inch on the end for cutting. Found too that mineral spirits will dissolve the excess glue on the guides. Just take them off and soak them overnight. Hope it helps.

I have this machine for a...
I have this machine for a few years. I added a big center hub to better control the roll and moved the little hub to the closest corner to have tighter infeed to the guides with less sideways stress. I want to add. The guides needed fiddling once, since then through different brands of edging I never had issues. The level of heat and speed depend on the brand of PVC I have used. Some go much quicker. I friend of mine with an air machine that works at much lower heats says it depends on the freshness of the PVC/glue. I have never figured out how to use the cutter without losing 4" of edging on every cut, so I use a razor. To the fellow who can only do shelves, if the edging is hot it will stick well even if turned on the table. Or do the top and bottom, trim, and then do the two opposite sides. A great machine overall. Another point I always have to back it up to a wall to stop it from sliding as I press to make sure getting I am good contact.

I've been building a set of...
I've been building a set of about 30 Euro-style cabinets for my home and shop. The instructions on this product were pretty much gibberish, but it's easy to see reason out how things are supposed to work. Most of my initial pain was related to developing the right technique. Next was getting the alignment right. Once those were once that was down, the machine works great. I find the cutter on the machine only useful when finishing a run of panels. I use shears to cut the tape between panels - awkward, but functional.

Immediately after purchasing, I used up a 250' roll of edgebanding and had no problems. It took a few dry runs to get the tape to line up parrallel with the board edge, but once I got it adjusted it was great. It's probably a good idea to clean the guides once in a while because they get a little gunked up with glue, but this is easy with alittle acetone. Overall this is a good product for the price, the only drawback is that you have to trim the edgebanding in whatever way you find works best, I use a bandit trimmer and a sander.

After reading mixed reviews on tabletop...
After reading mixed reviews on tabletop edge banders I was reluctant to purchase this product. But, I am glad that I did.I am using .018" PVC edge banding, and once I found a comfortable heat setting, I have had no problems. The heat setting determines how fast you can apply the edge banding. I am willing to go a little slower, as not to risk melting the PVC.Overall a very good investment.

If you are using the iron...
If you are using the iron method this one is substantially different - the tape is heated from the glue side and not form the outside. Major difference!Still adjusting the temperature is key. A very confidence inspiring Swiss made heat gun that comes with this machine has to be set to 3/4 of the power for the melamine or polyester band. Setting it to 1/2 will not glue the band to the wood. I have very good results with this machine - no touch-ups on some 20 melamine cabinets. I also rough the edges with 80 grit sand paper and use compressor to blow any dust before going to the machine with the piece to glue.Worth every penny. One minor issue is a kind of simple adjustment of the position of the band to the wood - the up/down had 4 screws to play with. Still after you set it once for the width you don't have to touch it.

edge bander
Still working with the band height. The brackets that control the edge band on the heat side bends the guides when they are tightened. I also had to clamp a block of wood so the large roll of band material would go through the first guide smoothly. But what do you want for the price. It works a lot better than the hand held hot iron. I did 3 closets in minutes that would taken hours to do by hand. All in all I like it

It works, but...
The machine does apply edge banding and can do a good job of it but it could be much better designed.
For starters, the chute which guides the banding should be one track and not two, Having two means that both can affect the alignment which makes initial setup a real pain. Secondly, the chute should have a screw adjustment to move the whole assembly up and down to that the alignment can easily be tweaked. Lastly this redesigned chute should stay centered and with one screw get wider or narrower. With this in place it would be a simple task to adjust the chute width with one screw and it's height with another -- not fumbling with 4 imprecise screws that wiggle all over the place!
Lastly, why does the manufacturer not have a black line down the face of the white board indicating where to press the cut lever -- i took a guess at where it should be, put down some blue painters tape and then moved it about until i had it cutting just right -- then i drew the line with a sharpie.

Not as Easy as It Appears
Used a quality self adhesive vinyl. Very difficult to get the temperature right. Material either gets to hot and stretches, or it embeds into the substrate and appears bumpy, or it just won't stick. Attempting to do simple door panels for retrofitting commercial cabinets and you simply can't put a someone on the machine and let them go. I've gone back to spray and hand applying the edge until I have time to mess with the thing and figure it out. Price is a bit high for what you get.

This machine works good. I removed the cutoff scissors because it wouldn't work right, right out of the box. As far as edgebanding it seems to work as well as the big edgebanders. The preglued tape sticks well once you get the feed timing down. Don't leave the tape in line with the hot air too long though, or the tape will discolor and start to burn. I mounted a pressure feather board above the work pieces to hold larger pieces down. Overall I am pleased with this product. I do high end cabinetry out of my small shop. So far I have had profesional results.

This machine was difficult to use. I was constantly adjusting the guides. When I was starting the banding it would super heat the tape curl the top a raise it up on the wood. I was ran over 500' of 10' pieces of oak plywood 5" wide through and I found it very difficult to keep pressure against the wheel and the feed speed constant at the same time. Not to mention I had to re-iron half the edge band after I was done ever though I had the heat as high as it would go. The feed table also had a skinny 3/4" post to hold the banding that has a 5" or bigger hole, so it goes everywhere. Did not work good at all for my application I returned it after use because it was so frustrating.

I have had this for a couple of years now and I'm not that satisfied with it. You can only band straight pieces so its only worth having if your constantly banding shelves. The big thing to keep in mind is how the banding moves up and down the piece and it goes along. I'm constantly having to calibrate it which is a total pain. I have to get extrawide banding to account for the movement. I can't stand having to rip off banding because 1/2way through a long shelf, the banding goes out of line.

Works well as far as heating the preglued edge tape but the tape wants to wander after the first bit and the guides do little to keep it in check. I added infeed and outfeed extensions for doing panels. For the money it's hard to beat.

made in Taiwan...
This machine is not entirely lame, and I haven't decided yet if I'm going to return it. It's very small, so for small jobs (shelves, etc.) it can be useful. The worst part though, for me, is the feed guide set up. Super cheesy engineering that requires constant recalibration to maintain the correct alignment with your piece, and the screws are right next to the heat gun, very hot!
With quite a bit of tweaking to fix its flaws, this thing may be worth keeping around.

Just use an iron.
This might be good for the person who does small things but even then I don't recommend it. It is easier to just use an iron. If I could return it I would. Glue gets all over the roller have to keep cleaning it, it takes forever to set the banding so it goes straight even then it doesn't. Have to reload the banding after every cut and if u take to long then it will burn and get a yellow spot. I can go on and on just use an iron.

Does not work well at all
I have wasted one roll of oak veneer tape trying to get this thing set up correctly. I was just doing small 2 foot long test pieces and not one would be considered accetable.
Several issues are as follows;
1) The table is not the corrct height so the tape gets a twist and does not feed correctly. It would be better if they had made the height adjustable so the top of the table could be alingned with the lower feed guides.
2) The guides have too much play in them where they mount to the vertical post so again the tape feed is erratic
3) While taping the edges , the tape flexes so most of the time the edge is not totally covered. It would be better if there was a way to shim the guides so the tape would not curl while going through the guides
4) The lack of a ring that matches the center of the spool so the tape does not feed, or gets stuck, etc. Also thee pivot point for the spool is in the wrong location so the tape has to make a sharp bend to feed into the guides.
5) The table for the spool is too small and in wrong location.
I may try to fiddle with this thing to get it to work, or I will just try to get a refund before I mess around with it. Do not expect to take it out of the box and use it without a lot of tinkering.
