I just had eye surgery and my current prescription safety glasses were not appropriate for shop work while my eyes recover.
As my distance vision was corrected, my only need was for reading a tape measure and eye protection.
I am hoping the bifocal is perfect. I tried reading glasses at the local box store to determine which magnifying power to order.
I will have corrective glasses made in about 6 weeks, post surgery and may keep the BSG just for the shop. Eye will see. LOL:)

BEST ANSWER: After using over the counter reading glasses a good many years, I don't believe you will see much difference between a +1.25 and+ 1.5 diopter strengths . If you have no idea where to start, consider using this average age formula: If you are under 40 years old, you probably should start with a +1.25 strength. Between ages 40 and 45, you probably need +1.75. At ages 45 to 50, you probably need +2.00. After age 50, you probably need +2.25. Since 1.5 is the lowest strength they have available, I would choose it. I myself, with 20/20 vision, use + 2.5.

At the end of the day, make it easy on yourself, just buy them and be safe... comfortable, safe
Why your at it you might as well buy 3 glasses as you will only send the time looking around for them once you get use to them, when you have one pair

Big difference
Don't compromise on safety. Glasses help you see, safety goggles protect you from debris. These glasses do both. I wear these all the time now and don't worry. They are very clear and comfortable. These are an affordable way to help keep you safe.

Safety Glasses
I use to take my glasses off to put my safety glasses on and then take my safety glasses off and put my glasses back on. I use to do this over and over throughout the day. Now I forget that I am wearing the bifocal safety glasses and sometimes do regular activities with them on. I give them two thumbs up, and would recommend them to anyone that requires reading/cheater glasses.

A must have for reading glass wearing woodworkers!
These are great. I recently need to wear readers and found myself like the nitty proffer sir switching between readers to see my lines and safety glasses when running the equipment. These glasses solve the problem. Wish they were available as a true safety glass rather than polycarbonate as I tend to scratch the poly lenses quickly.

Great product
I'm on my second pair. I have used the first pair for about a year. They are comfortable and good protection. Being made of plastic & getting hit by sawdust, collecting perspiration and getting wiped hourly, they won't last forever, but at that price, they are worth it. Sometimes, I even forget that I have them on when I leave the shop & go to the house with them still on.

great glasses
The placement of the magnification portion of the lenses on these glasses is pretty low, and some reviewers don't like that geometry because it forces them to look down through the bottom part of the safety glass lenses to use the magnification. For me, that is not a bad thing but a very good, comfortable and useful thing. I try to be very careful about my eyes, and I used to get really sick and tired of constantly removing and replacing reading glasses with safety glasses in the shop. Bifocal safety glasses are a great idea, but I always hated that the reading glass portion of my other brands of bifocal safety glasses seem to take up so much of the upper part of the lens that I couldn't focus properly through the windowpane part of the lens. I seemed to always be consciously looking over the top of the bifocal portion of the lenses, and this effort to continuously focus and refocus was sometimes unsafe in some operations, and it often gave me a headache. At times like that, I wound back up in the mode of shuffling glasses off and on as needed, which tends to accumulate dust and scratches on the lenses and despite my interest in working safely, it sometimes can lead to performing some minor operations without eye protection. These glasses are a great compromise, because I can just put them on, nice and clean, as I walk through the door and leave them on at all times as I move around and work in the shop with normal vision. I can use the magnification when I need it. For full-time close work, I just wear reading glasses or magnification goggles.

Fastcaps Bi focal line is low...
Fastcaps Bi focal line is low compared to a 3m pair that I am replacing and that is a good thing! In construction getting up and down ladders, stairs, looking at the ground, the 3m pair with its higher bi focal line gives you an out of focus view when tilting your head down which always takes getting used to everytime you put them on. With the Fastcap pairs lower bi focal line, they are very easy to work with getting around and when it comes time to read a print etc., a slight tilt of the head and it's there in focus. The 3m pair is now strictly for the shop and the Fastcap pair is for everywhere else.

I wear contact lenses for distance...
I wear contact lenses for distance so close work, like reading a scale or setting the bit height on my router table, required me to change from safety glasses to reading glasses. When I found these Bifocal they were cheap enough to try. I'm very glad I did. the first time I wore them on it took about 15 minutes to get used to them since I've never worn bifocals before. I'm mostly a weekend woodworker so each time I put them on it takes a few minutes for my eyes to adjust but that's it. I can wear them for hours with no problem. Everyone's eyes are different so I guess they'll work better for some people than others but they work great for me. I'm thinking about buying another pair at a slightly higher level of magnification for when I work with my scroll saw.

I bought a pair of tinted at the store and every one I showed them to loved them. They went on sale and I bought 2 more pair of clear. They are great on the job or in the shop.

Just what I needed. These work great. In the past I've worn drug store cheap reading glasses for close-up cabinet work. These glasses may be a bit off on the magnification scale. I think the 2X safety glasses are closer to 1.5X. So buy one step up if you aren't sure.

I've been a bit negligent in wearing my older safety goggles mainly because they are older plastic and not so clear. However since getting these Bifocal FastCap safety glasses I wear them almost all the time or have them on the bill of my cap. They are clear and the bifocal works just fine. I purchased two of these and put one by my "other" workbench. They're great and priced right.

Sooner or later, you will need...
Sooner or later, you will need some help with reading or viewing finer print. Recently I started to require a set of reading glasses. These safety glasses REALLY did the trick. In the past I avoided safety glasses over my prescription glasses, then I went through Lasix surgery which corrected my vision however I still required reading glasses not due to an error, but simply of age. I purchased one of these only to find out how comfortable they are to wear specially without prescription glasses in addition to their clarity and of course I can now easily read my markings, rulers, joints as well as everything else I was having difficulty viewing.A positive note is that they are so comfortable I use a neck strap that I use them all the time. I am very happy with these glasses, I have purchased a couple of extras for my military use as well as my other needs outside of the woodshop.BOHICA!!

I wish I had ordered some of these a long time ago. They're great! I've used all three pairs and they give me great protection. I use the 1.5 when I use my table saw or shaper and the 3.0 when I'm doing close up work, such as carving. It's a great product.

I do a lot of woodworking and my eyes are not what they used to be. I bought the 3.oo. They are wonderful. The plans and setup are clear and the glasses keep those nasty bits of sawdust from the eyes. Thank you!

I normally wear contact lenses and have to wear a pair of readers to see close up. On my off days, I refuse to wear my contacts and I give my eyes a break. With the 2.5 lenses, I can work on my woodworking projects and see everything I need to see. These are really great glasses; not to mention that they're full wrap around and work well for safety.

These work great !
I like these glasses and they work fine. The only reason for 1 star missing is that I had a more expensive pair and got spoiled.

I like the product. But I wish they had a 2.75 lens. Going from 2.5 to 3.0 is a little to much. I would rather have a 2.75.

Bifocal success
I really enjoyed my purchase of the bifocal saftey glasses. I like that the viewing area is large and easy to see out of the normal part of the eyepiece. The perfectly positioned magnified portion is low and out of the way until you need to focus on the small lines or object you need to see. They are light, comfortable and do not slide up and down the nose because of the rubberized arms. It's a great tool to have in the shop.

Inexpensive, decent quality bi-focal safety glasses
I've been using these safety glasses for a couple of years now I think, and I always try to keep a couple of pairs around so I don't have to hunt for them. They're inexpensive enough that you can get a couple pairs of them without breaking the bank or worrying too much about them. They're a huge help for close-up work for those of us whose eyesight is less than perfect and save me from having to get too close to the work and tools. They do get scratched, but seem to hold up pretty well if you take care of them.

Helpful in the shop
Bought several pair to leave around the shop. Work great for reading the scales without having to switch between the safety glasses and reading glasses.

These glasses are very good. In...
These glasses are very good. In fact I also use them as my riding glasses at night when riding my motorcycle. They allow me to clearly see my speedometer and other gages. (several members of my MC have asked me to get them a couple of pairs also) In the shop they are also good. There is only one bad thing about them and that is that the bi-focal part is too low on the glasses and causes me to have to bend my head back in order to use them. If the bi-focal part was larger and higher on the lens it would be much better and I would order a ton of them if redesigned with the larger bi-focal or raise it on the lens, I would have no problem rating these a solid 5. Still a very good product at a good price. I am pleased with mine (I bought 8 pair so far, as they are made of plastic and do scratch easily and I like clear vision). Good work Rockler for continuing to provide the best products at reasonable prices.

Once I get used to them I forget I even have them on. Like tonight, after working in the shop a couple of hours I came into the house to check email. Yep, I'm still wearing them. Very comfortable.

I haven't actually used the glasses...
I haven't actually used the glasses at my saw yet, but they seem to fit nicely and the wraparound seems to provide very good protection. I would prefer that the magnifier portion was a little larger as I have to raise the glasses a bit off the bridge of my nose to read the tape measure. Overall, I think these glasses are going to be a big help in the shop and at a very good price.

I bought 2 pairs, free shipping gets me all the time... I couldn't get the 1.5 I wanted at my local hardware store there were out. Love them I am able to read again. The bifocal are comfortable and the price is right. Looking forward to wear them at work where the parts I have to identify are hard to read I use a 10 times manifier at times. What a relief it would be when my woodworking shop will be back up again.

Great glasses, fit well and are comfortable. Only problem is the magnifying lenses are so low down, that you have to raise your head up to far to use them.

These clear lenses work very well, and the magnifier really helps with fine print or reading the markings on a steel rule. Only problem I had is that the top line of the bifocal doesn't line up perfectly across the two lenses, but that just takes a little getting used to.
