Bad - Bad plans

The plans are worthless. I had to use my imagination to figure most of it out. Save your money and go and buy a good set of plans.

I ordered both the hinge set and the desk plans. The hinge and support mechanism are fantastic. The plans do require a bit of work on the builder's part, but give a basic framework. I never build anything by someone else's plans, anyway - I always want my projects to have elements of my own design. The set of plans I received had some of its dimensions missing. I emailed Rockler and their staff furnished me with a pdf file containing the needed measurements. The plans call for the desk to be built from hardwood faced plywood, but I built mine from solid cherry with a mahogany front. I extensively modified the interior dividers to my needs, and also reworked the angle and dimensions on the sides to make it look a bit more cohesive. Overall, I thought the plans were great. This is not a project for a beginner. In order to make the top fit correctly, count on spending a significant amount of time adjusting angles and distances. It can be done, though. The result is a desk which I have received numerous compliments on.

Hardware worked great, but as for print, no. Pictures good, directions bad.

I ordered only the hinge set to repair an old writing desk. The parts arrived promptly, had a nice antique finish, and seemed solidly built. The price was great and I was very pleased to find these. They worked nicely even though the style was slightly different from my missing originals.

If you have no experience with wood working, and cannot read between the lines this would be impossible. Won't do this again!
