I agree with the unit being top-heavy. I have concern(of tipping over)when moving it over the garage door threshold, to empty and clean the unit outside. This unit cleans 7 of 9 power tools in my shop. As long as you blast gate all of your machines and have only, 1 or 2 gates open at a time, you'll have outstanding results. I highly recommend a 2-stage seperator for the planer and joiner or the bag would fill, for me, on a daily basis.

Great product at a great price. I really like the 1 micron bag. Easy to assemble and hook up. Quieter than I expected. UPS needs to be more gentle with the heavy items, mine arrived with two bad dents with missing paint in the area of the dent. I didn't buy it for its looks so I'm keeping it! I will replace the bag with a canister filter when I get tired of cleaning the bag so often. If you are looking for a 110V dust collector, this is the top of the heap at this time.

This unit deserves a five star rating. For reasons listed below I can only give it three. I desperately needed a dust collection system because my basement shop was fast becoming a "dust chamber". After reading a number of reviews I decided on the Delta 50-720 unit. It works as advertised, particularly if set up with an upstream chip separator (garbage can with cyclone lid). Although I have not added a dust port to every piece of wood working equipment in my shop, I can attest that in case of the (retrofitted for duct collection) table saw the unit works very well.
However, I cannot wholeheartedly recommend Delta equipment for the shipping packaging is sub par and not worthy of Delta's reputation. The shipping box my unit arrived in was dented in at one spot. The unit itself was not damaged in the same spot but rather featured three dents: a) the motor housing, so that the cooling fan could not move; b) the impeller housing, so that the impeller brushed on it and c) a minor dent on the impeller assembly which does not impact the operation of the unit in any way. After careful examination, I determined that I could fix dents a) and b) myself. After doing some (minor) sheet metal work, the set-up was straight forward and the unit operates as advertised.
If you are willing to accept a Delta unit with potential shipping damage, then I highly recommend the unit.

This is no doubt the best dust collector for the price range and motor size. It's a simple design but is very well built and has plenty of power for a small shop. However, while having the motor/fan assembly on top of the frame eliminates the need for extra hoses it does make for a somewhat of a top heavy design. If someone tugs on a dust hose (for example when using the Rockler vacume attachment) this model can easily topple over (Easily remidied by anchoring to a wall or weighting the bottom).

For the money, this has to be the best dust collector in its class! Addition of a preseparator such as an upstream metal garbage can with special plasic cyclone lid (~$30), makes this the best under $500 system out there. Highly recommended!

This dust collector was purchased as an upgrade from the wet/dry vac I have been using. The 1 micron bag is one of the best available, the air movement is excellent for this size collector, and the noise level is much quieter than the wet/dry vac. I hooked this collector up to a dust collection system for my shop. The only machine it struggled with was an old style table saw I use. Much better results were achieved after using a zero clearance insert.
