Can be used with water or a rubbing oil. Water gives a faster cutting action.

Use a felt pad (#58271 or 58289) to rub the on the surface. Rotten stone is a finer grit than Pumice stone. Use Rotten stone after Pumice stone to achieve a higher gloss.

Used it to fix a high gloss piano. Sanded down the piano, buffed it with rubbing compound, rotten stone, and swirl remover and it looks great.

My Dad told me how they used to use rotten stone to rub out a finish to perfection when he was in high school shop. I thought I would try it out. Fantastic results. It is well worth the time and effort if you want a perfect, no flaw finish. I'm just sorry I waited 30 years to try it out. Give it a shot. It's well worth it!

Not much into wood finishing or furniture maintenance. My mother turned me on to pumice when I saw her using it to touch up her treasured dining room table. It was funny, but she pronounced it (pew - mice).
I have a pretty nice oak desk that has travelled around with me over the years and there were a couple of areas that needed to touch up. I ordered some pumice, used the pumice and it looks great again.

Been building custom guitars for 25 yrs, and I have been shooting my finishes up until a few months ago when I decided to totally switch to Minwax Tung oil. I tried the Pumice and Rotten stone the other day for the 1st time(my Father who's also an avid woodworker has been on me for years to use pumice and rotten stone but my own ignorance stopped me) Well all I have to say is WOW!!!!!!!!!! I will never shoot a finish on anything again. Thanks POPS and Rockler..You have created a monster with these two products.

My husband used pumice when he used to refurnish furniture as a hobby (he did beautiful work), generally with a satin poly. He is helping a neighbor who wants to learn and this product is impossible to find on the Oregon coast. Fortunately, we now have some! Great website!

This is how you get the PROFESSIONAL looking finish. Best used with Lacquer, after it has dried for a week. It can be used with some poly finishes. Just make sure they are cured.
This finishing process is more work than others - and the results are worth it.
