This product works as described. I am new to finger jointing, so using this bit was a learning experience for me. There are a few videos online about how to use this bit and that is should be used in a router table. For the application that I needed, using a router table was not possible. Using some scrap wood, I fashioned a very simple jig which allowed me to use the bit without a router table. See the attached pics. The guide on the jig is a cut-off from one of the cherry boards. The reason this board is used as a guide, is because it is the same thickness as the wood that I am finger jointing. When using the jig and bit on boards that are 3/4 of an inch thick, it's easy just to cut one end of one of the boards you are joining and then cut the end of the 2nd board by flipping it over. Do this after the initial setting of the bit. This should produce boards that join fairly even without having to re-position the bit. When using boards of a bigger or smaller size than 3/4", it's best to use a test piece for each jointed end reserve as templates and adjust the bit for the partner end between joining ends. This bit seems to be kind of fragile. A tooth broke off my bit. I know not why? I planed the boards myself and there was no metal, however, Rockler was more than happy to replace it because they have excellent customer service!
