Spring is here, and you know what that means… it’s time for Belt Sander Races! Never raced a power tool before? No time like the present to get started on a new hobby, I always say. On May 2, Rockler’s Denver, Colorado store will host its annual family-fun-filled Belt Sander Race and Tool Swap. There’ll be prizes for the winners, and also hot dogs, soda, in-store specials and lots of excitement! The event is open to everyone and the proceeds go to charity. Click here for more details.
Seems we’re not the only ones with the itch to turn our power tools into NASCAR-like vehicles– found this on Twitter this week: First Annual Power Tool Drag Races to be held in Columbus, Ohio in June. This one’s put on jointly by the Columbus Idea Foundry (which is a very interesting place, and worthy of a future post) and The Fuse Factory – Columbus.
And apparently it’s a wildly popular craze, as evidenced by the number of YouTube videos you can find when you search “power tool racing” or “belt sander racing”! Here’s one, from the AWFS show a couple years ago (hey– isn’t that Al Borland?):
