Innovative Entry Door Bits form Freud
posted on by

Suddenly, thanks to another innovation from Freud, just about anyone can make their own 1-3/4" thick frame and panel entry doors and 1-3/8" interior doors.

The perfectly matched Entry Door Stile and Rail Set features the famous Freud quality, including application specific carbide, tri-metal brazing (to prevent micro-fractures between the carbide and the body), multi-axis grinding, and a kick-back reducing design that makes Freud bits among the safest on the market. The bits come factory assembled to cut a 1-3/4" entry door, but it's a quick and easy matter to remove the center spacer and set up to make 1-3/8" interior doors.

But what really makes this set something special is that it allows you to cut an integrated tenon onto the end of the rail, without letting yourself in for a major hassle.  In fact, the bits are designed to make this preferred type of construction easy. The top cutter of the bit screws off, allowing the bottom cutter to pass completely under the stock during the coping cut.  Your doors glue up with the traditional and solid mortise and tenon joints that have been used to hold frame and panel doors together for centuries.

Why are we so excited about this?  Quality custom exterior doors, sidelights and transoms are often priced in the several thousand of dollar neighborhood, The Freud Entry Door Stile and Rail Set isn't - it's less than two hundred bucks.  The set is well designed and easy enough for anyone with basic woodworking skills to use, and its ready to go, right out of the box. Add it all up, and what you have is a stile and rail set that puts top-quality solid wood doors in reach like they've never been before.

i am looking for anyone that has used these bits. I want to make some interior doors and what i am wondering is if the sloting cutter can be used to cut a 1/4" slot for the panels. The panel groove this cuts is 3/8 thick and I would like it a bit thinner to get the panels to match already existing doors in the house
