Rockler Woodworking and Hardware’s new Caliper Gauge/Center Finder incorporates two different functions frequently used by woodturners into one tool. The calipers can be set at any eighth-inch increment between 1/8" and 5" by setting them on the gauge and sliding along the “sawtooth” edges until the calipers click onto the desired indexed step. When they’re set, turners can instantly gauge the diameter of their turning simply by holding the calipers up to it. Using the center finder entails slipping any round or square stock into the back of the gauge and striking two perpendicular lines through the window to prepare it for clamping between centers. The Caliper Gauge/Center Finder (item #34010) sells for $5.99, as of 2010.
