Already starting to wonder what you’ll do with this season’s cache of woodworking gifts? Here’s a thought: the folks at LumberJocks.com are holding another challenging contest, and it’s coming up fairly soon. Entries for the Winter Woodworking Awards begin at the end of this month and close on January 31st. So, if you’re like most of us, you’ll need to start making a few sketches before too long.
It’s free to enter, but you have to be a member of the LumberJocks community. That’s also free and worth the effort. LumberJocks’ ever-growing membership is populated by woodworkers of all descriptions. They’re online more-or-less continuously to share tips, project ideas and their thoughts and insights whatever comes up having to do with the craft.
This year, they have an excellent line-up of prizes, including a new band saw for the lucky top entrant. But even if you don’t take top honors, you still may end up with some great stuff, including Freud’s recently introduced Premier Fusion Saw Blade, which has been hailed by many as the new standard in general purpose saw blades. (Learn more about why you might want to vie for that in our post on the new Freud GP blade) There’s also some great stuff from Microplane, a pin nailer, T-shirts, and more.
We’ll be watching for the results. We’re especially anxious to see what comes out of the “anything you can make out of a single 2 x 4” category. See the LumberJocks website for details, and good luck!
