BEST ANSWER: I Believe they do.I've used 2 single ones to flush mount a project. I spaced the same distance as the mounting screws that came with the wall anchors. I believe I used a forstner bit to recess the hangers and drilled a deeper hole to accomodate the head of the wall anchor screw.

I have purchased these several times; the first time the ones I received had a recess behind the slot allowing a flush mount of a #8 flathead screw without carving a second recess in the workpiece to accomodate the screwhead. The other time I received my order of these they did not have the rear recess, requiring me to carve a second recess into the workpiece to accomodate the screw head. Seems like a picky issue until you account for the additional time required to correctly flush mount these hangers. Which type are you currently displaying? A second photo showing the back of the hanger would be helpful.

BEST ANSWER: The ones that I purchased had the screw recess, like the one pictured. I morticed the hangers into the piece using a Forstner bit. I still drilled additional recess space using a smaller Forstner bit

Great product. I have never used these before and they were very easy to flush mount just using forstner bits. The wall screws really lock into them and hold very well. Would buy again.

These worked as hoped to hang artwork on jib doors . Each price hung is fixed to the door face, and when you open the doors there is no jeopardy of the art moving let alone falling from the door.

I was looking for something that would be strong to hold a shelf I was building to showcase my beer pint glasses and it worked great! I used longer screws to put my mind at ease and they worked like a charm. I plan on using them for other projects.

Excellent using bugle head screws to hang on
These work well. Place anchors in wall that accept sheet rock screws and they'll slide on without routing a recess in frame. Place four on a frame in a square pattern at 45° angle and frame can mount in either orientation.

I purchased 30 pairs of the...
I purchased 30 pairs of the 5/8" x 1-21/32" size for making MDF sign blanks for a local artist. As other reviewers indicated, these need to be recessed 1/8" in order to be flush with the surface that goes against the wall. I recommend making a router template for creating the recess. If a flat head screw is used for hanging, then you don't need to do any additional routing. If a button head screw is going to be used though, as part of a drywall anchor system for example, then you'll want to recess the area underneath the keyhole an additional 1/8" to allow clearance for the bigger screw head. Also note that these fittings include screws for mounting. I don't think that information was included in the product description.

Worked great to hang a small...
Worked great to hang a small shelf. The pieces are well made and it seems to be heavier duty than using a keyhole bit in a router to make the slot. Thickness of the piece is 1/8" including the flared part. I mortised on my drill press with a 5/8" forstner bit and cleaned up with a chisel. I was only installing two of these at the time. If I were using very many I would make a jig for my router for the mortising. A smaller hole must be drilled in the center of the workpiece to allow space for the screw head that this piece hangs on. The mortise has to be 1/8" deep minimum for this piece to sit flush with the surface. It won't hurt to go a little deeper as the screw the piece hangs on can be adjusted. The screws for attaching this piece are just shy of 5/8" long, so they would have to be shortened or changed if your workpiece thickness is much less than 3/4".

Keyhole offset is too shallow
The height and width are correct, but I have to disagree with Matthew M from West Lebanon, NH in that I put the hanger down on a flat surface and was not able to slide a #8 flat head screw under the offset. It is possible that the #28837 Keyholes I got are different than the ones he got. So just be careful. Other than that, the quality is excellent. It is a shame that these singles are not available in 9/16 width.

Even with pre-drilling the holes for the screws to go into, I had 2 screw heads shear off when tightening. Very disappointing. Did not have the same issue when using other screws I had lying around.
