How expensive are the drill bits? Are they easy to get? How expensive are your self tapping screws? Are they easy to get?

BEST ANSWER: The bits came with the kit and haven't needed replacing. Also when I bought the jig I bought the set of assorted screws at the same time. I haven't had to get more yet but they are easily available at Rockler.

what is the max thickness of wood this jib can be used on?
H. C
on Sep 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The maximum thickness that the K4 will work with would be 1 1/2". Anything larger would not be able to fit between the clamp and the upright. However, with using either the step blocks or the portable base you can use the drill guide block with thicker material but the screw will not be centered.

Great system to help me with a project
My wife's friend asked me to make a bench for her. I was wondering how to fasten the top to the bottom. I considered pocket holes but didn't have a good system. The Kreg K4 enabled me to put the bench together with very little effort.

My first experience, using the Kreg K4 was very successful and very rewarding. Thanks to the instructions; examples via video; and layout of the tool, my first project (a toy box for my grand daughter) was two thumbs-up.

a good system
overall, this is thoughtfully designed. i mounted it to a 12" x 12" piece of MDF. so far i haven't needed to clamp that to the bench. you can join things very quickly with this.
i did also use this to make joints that were well within sandable tolerance, and probably will again, but it took a bit of finesse. nothing wrong with this unit itself--it made the hole i wanted--but there's a lot of torque that can cause the drilled workpiece to drift as you're screwing it onto the target workpiece.
i tried and returned the kreg right angle clamp. what's ended up working the best so far for me was clamping the target workpiece to the lip of a bench hook with ordinary clamps i already had.
the dust cowling for shopvac clicks into place and forms a seal when the vacuum's on.
it comes with a nice long square bit that's very useful at the very shallow angle the system's designed around.
the pilot hole that a standard kreg-jig bit makes will work with other fasteners: #8 spax, for instance. i see no reason it wouldn't work with any other #7 or #8 pan- or button-head screw whose head diameter fits in the big hole the kreg-jig bit makes.
overall i like it a lot and i'm glad i have one now.

Fell in love the first time I used it
I am simply amazed at how this revolutionized assembly for me. It is very simple to use and dramatically speeds up assembly and improved accuracy of assembled joints. Product quality seems very high - after a couple thousand holes drilled my jig performs like the day I bought it. I predict it will last for years. Nice bonus : you can find hundreds of projects on the internet that incorporate the use of pocket holes screws.

Kreg Jig Review
What a great product. Took me no time at all to begin using it on a project I was working on. I can't wait to use it on future projects that are on my list - it will definitely be a time-saver.

This jig opened up a whole new world of joinery for me. Simple straight cuts is all it took to build this bed system in my garage. I used Kreg joints to build the entire cabinet as well as the drawers. No hard-to-cut dado's on the big side panels. I did not use any glue and the cabinets and drawers are very strong with only the Kreg screws. I am very happy with the ease of use and quality of the jig. I have used it on many projects and is an essential part of my woodshop.

Already had the handheld jig. After using this one, I know that I will not be using the old one very much. It is a great tool that really allows me to be creative and create strong joints. No woodshop is complete without one.

Ditto all the other praises of this tool. Short story is the Kreg Jig is essential to every wood worker's shop. It creates tight, professional looking joints with minimal effort. One thing to remember, though, is to ALWAYS use glue. Wood is a dynamic material and it moves with changes in temperature and humidity. Never forget glue! The screws are simply clamps that hold the pieces together while the glue dries. My Kreg jig is one of the most important tools in my shop.

Best accessory I've bought in a long time, has already paid for itself with the time saved over having to dowel my rails and stiles. I have found that if you're using soft wood it would behoove you to set the clutch on your drill to a low setting, I use a Dewalt 18v and set the clutch to 5. this snugs the joinery very well but won't over counter sink the screwrecommend : YESIf I would give it 6 stars

As a beginning woodworker intimidated by some of the more intricate forms of joinery, I decided to try this jig. Initial impressions were that the kit was high quality and easy to understand although I wish the scales on the jig itself were easier to read. After doing one trial joint, I decided to make a stand for my benchtop router table. Within an hour, I made a basic but perfect stand. The pocket holes were easy to drill, and flawless! I really can't recommend the kit highly enough, although I do recommend the Kreg Right Angle Clamp that's available.

I am brand new to woodworking, but was already uneasy with the idea of joints. Mortise and tenon, dovetails, rabbets...I didn't exactly want to dive in and experiment. I made a simple coat and shoe rack for my garage, and it turned out great. The joints were perfectly square, and solid. If you're a newbie like me, this jig will bolster your confidence quickly.

I wanted to buy cabinits for my work shop but they were either to exspensive or did not fit my needs so I put it off for a long time. Then one morning I saw the Kreg Jig advertised on TV and a light bulb went on in my head to build my own. I started building the day it was delivered to my door. What a great tool!!! It took me half the time it normally did to build my cabints, no more glueing and clamping which took forever. The other great thing on one of base cabinits I put the face together wrong and with the Kreg System I was able to take it apart and redo it. That alone paid for the tool. Again what a great tool!

The jig was easy use and I was able to create a good looking face frame on the first try. The DVD was helpful in getting started. My only suggestion is to pick up one of their face clamps, that really made the work go quickly.

This was the first time I have built cabinets - I made six. The Kreg pocket hole jig made the work of built the door frame easy. My purchase was justified at twice the price. I had a DVD from Woodworker's Journal showing how it was done. The DVD that came with the Kreg jig helped also. I would not want to build a cabinet without this jig. It can also make building picture frames just as easy. It will look professional and I am not professional at all.

I am new to woodworking and can't imagine building something without it. I'm glad I found this before I spent a lot of money on a biscut joiner. This cuts down on the need to measure for biscuts or dowels. This tool allows someone with the most basic woodworking skills,to add a professional touch to their jobs.

This is a really well engineered system and I concur with all of the five star reviews. As with all shop work there's always some danger you don't expect. I held the jig down on my bench grasping it with my fingers on the back side and not thinking about what's back there, managed to touch the very sharp exposed drill, slicing off a little bit of finger. Ouch! Don't make this mistake. Clamp it to the bench if at all possible
