The other Kreg R3 Pocket System has a lot more quantity, but this Kreg R3 Pocket System will work just as well for a much better price. Even if you purchase things separately as your working on your projects it's not nearly as expensive on your pocketbook and it fits the budget better. Besides this is a Christmas present for my husband.

is the tip of the drill bit supposed to come out the end?
charlie n
on Sep 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The tip of the drill bit is not supposed to come out through your material. This allows for the self tapping wood screws to have some threads in the piece with the pocket holes making the joint pull tight.

Hello George,
It does not need glue. But as others have stated glue will provided the strongest application along with our screws. This is decided on a project to project basis.
Thanks,
Josh

BEST ANSWER: r3 costs $45 uses a Kreg clamp (not supplied) to clamp jig to material. Has 2 3/8" pocket holes with 7/8" spacing.

Hi Gerry,
The R3 is compact portable Jig that can be used on repairs or new projects. It can be secured to the wood using screws or a Face clamp then you drill your holes.
The K4 is a Jig that is secured to your work station using screws or a face clamp. You would then clamp the wood into the Jig, using the attached clamp to drill your pocket holes.
Hopefully this helps.
Thank you,
Billy H

You probably mean R3 and K4 - I have both. R3 is less expensive but you will need to buy a clamp that costs $30 or $47. K4 is quicker for drilling pocket holes in multiple pieces of wood, before assembling, since you can set it up on a bench and the built in clamp will quickly allow insertion and removal of parts.

I am building a dining room table, and I am using pocket holes to attach the legs and aprons to the actual top. Something got tweaked when I glued the apron to the legs so I have a slight gap in between the apron and top. My question is I'm concerned to screw the top to the apron with pocket holes in fear of cracking the wood. Any suggestions?

on Sep 20, 2016
BEST ANSWER: In an application like this we recommend using pocket hole screws like you are referring to. However, once your screws are tight we recommend taking just a square drive screw driver and loosening them about a 1/4 turn. This will allow for movement from the expansion and contraction of the wood over time minimizing the chance of warping.

You probably shoupdnt attach the top with pocket screws they would stop the wood from moving and cause more warping especially on a large piece of wood like a table top. I would suggest using button fasteners to attach the top. It might be hard because of the warping and you might need to reposition the screws in the apron to flatten stuff out.

Do you make a KREG tool for 4x4s?
Billy Joe L
on Jun 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: While making a drill press stand, I used the Kreg tool to drill holes for screws to attach 4x4 Legs to the top. The top was a rectangle frame made of 4x4s.. it worked great. The kreg tool is put on the side of a piece of wood so the size of the wood does not matter, provided the wood is thick, enough to accomodate the angle needed for the drill hole crated by the Kreg tool. MY legs became strongly attached to the top thanks to the kreg too.

This tool says, "Nine position settings let you create strong wood joints in materials from 1/2" to 1-1/2" thick in 1/8" increments"... so, a 2x4 is only 1.5x3.5, it should work fine.

Works great - buy the clamp
Great tool - you really need the clamp to make this work easily. I used it for a floating shelf project and the results were outstanding!

Great Portable Pocket Hole Unit
I have a Kreg bench mounted system but a recent project had pieces that were too large for it. Got the portable unit and used it with Kreg face clamp (sold separately) to hold unit to the plywood. It worked very well and is adjustable for thickness of wood 1/2" - 1-1/2" in 1/8" steps.
It is very handy and reasonably Priced

Easy to use.
I built a porch railing system with the Kreg jig and it really worked well. Makes the connections really tight and I was able to leave no holes on the top of the railing.
Very easy to use.

Kreg Pocket Hole Jig
I have only ever seen pocket holes made by large production machinery so when I came upon a project, a massive 6' X 8' X 16" oak display case, in my small garage shop that needed a lot of pocket holes, I thought it was time to try the "little brother".
It works great! First off, i had to make 48 alternating pockets to fuse a full sheet of 3/4" oak-faced ply to a second half sheet to create a 6' wide X 8' H back sheet. Working from the center to the outer ends, the pre-glued seams drew right together by the screws with little help from the bar clamps. The bottom center and top horizontals, all 3/4" oak ply, also got the pocket treatment. Because the scale for setting the drill stop is so easy to use, I was able to set the depth stop short to accommodate a shallow screw setting. In all, I ran about 76 pocket holes and the tooling stood up to all of it. I'm very impressed!

OUTSTANDING!
I have been doing carpentry for several years now and found myself saying, "I've been doing this WRONG!" Once I used the pocket screws with the KREG jig, my joints became MUCH tighter and easier to achieve. I can't say enough good things about the pocket hole system!

Very handy
A terrific tool for a specific type of joinery that makes certain situations really easy. I had a limited space available when needing to frame my electrical breaker box located between studs on a wall. Use of pocket screws let me attach 2X4 frame members to supports behind the box by permitting use of a screwdriver from the front rather than from the side. Very handy.

Great tool!
This is my second Kreg jig. I bought the original--it made out of cast metal with a clamp--for face frame construction but wanted this one to use for plywood panels. It works great. It's much easier to move and clamp the small jig to a panel than it is to move a piece of plywood in a fixed jig. I highly recommend it.

Excellent value and utility
Extremely easy to use and adjustable to a wide variety of stock thicknesses.Oce set for the stock thickness, it takes only a few seconds to make a pocket hole. I made several A frames for a rolling clamp stand with about 18 pocket holes in about 30 minutes, including assembly time. Very fast end easy

Great Product
This is a great product. Well designed, does what its supposed to do and comes in a nice case with extras. Don't bother with the overpriced accessory clamps. A clamp you have in your toolbox already will work just fine, if it fits into the recess.

The very best tool!!!!
This is the best way to fasten wood together! I have you it to fasten 3/4 inch wood together, and now I have even used it for 1 1/2 inch would together. It will pull the wood together nice and tight. Then the holes are easy to cover up with the wood grommets Kreg sells.

Makes Me Look Like I Know What I am Doing!
Does exactly what it says it will. perfect pocket holes every time.
Was looking at R5 and 4 settled on the 3 because I don't have that much to do. you do need to take the time to clamp your pieces properly but the results are always spot on.

Kreg Pocket Hole System
Works great with clamp. Adjustable stock depth gauge really helps ensure proper placement. This was much easier to use than friends Kreg which did not include clamp or depth gauge.
