Does this lid support lock open?
Paul S
on Feb 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: My son used this lid support to hold open the legs of a child's wooden easel when my toddler grandson kept collapsing it. So it wasn't exactly used as a lid support, but it does the job of holding the easel legs open. To answer your question, it has locked in place for his use.

I have a box type lid that weighs 21 lbs. Will one of these supports work for it or will I need two?
AmericanPatriot
on Mar 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I would recommend two for a lid that heavy. The supports open to a few degrees more than 180 so the balance is what will keep the lid in place. Just beware of the pinch point where the supports come together to "lock". The lid supports do not have any locking mechanism just where the two halves meet at the pinch point.

I built a small coffin -- the lid is 28" x 44" and is primarily solid oak. I didn't weigh it, but it's fairly heavy, and one lid support works fine.

Where are the directions to install?
Margaret S
on Jun 7, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I didn't receive any directions, but here's what I did and the lid support and lid work fine. I built a casket. It measures about 27"wide by 43" long and 12" deep. The lid is all oak and is heavy. I supported the lid at about 80 degrees - slightly less than 90 degrees. Placing the lid support in the open or extended position (when closed the hinge point remains at the back of the box), I marked a location for the center of the screw on each end of the support equidistant on the lid and on the box from the corner. I then installed the brackets that the lid support attaches to, centering them on the marks. Attach the brackets, attach the lid support, and it should work as advertised.

These hinges can be installed either way. The controlling factor is the available space for the folded hinge to be stored and if the pinch point is a danger to fingers. Folded down and back is best but there may not be adequate room for them all the time. Folded out may interfer with items to be stored but usually allows the easiest fold. Just be mindful of the pinch point that holds the hinge locked when fully extended.

Solidly built
I ordered a pair to support the lid for my large and very heavy box chest. Because of the weight I used two just to make sure and they went in exceptionally easy. Couldn't be more happy with product or the price.

The Lid is Up
Don't know why I didn't install these earlier. They were easy to install and work great. If you need a box lid to stay up these supports will do the trick.

Works Just Fine
I bought the lid supports for my son to install on a child's wooden easel. His two year old would push on the easel causing it to collapse on his 4 year old sister on the other side. The lid supports (one on each side) hold it open so he can't do that, thus saving tears and possible injury.

It's a great product at an even better price! I just needed a simple lid support for a jewelry box I was constructing. This definitely did the trick, and was easy to install. The only downside would be what Michael mentioned! it kind of slams shut when closing, but it stays up real nice the rest of the time.

It works for what it is made to do. I made a childrens toy chest and it it great because it holds the lid open so the the kids dont have to, but the only thing I dont like is that it slams shut. I would like it better if it closes slowly, but other than that its great.
